# Kirsty Brewster > Senior Software Developer at Voyatek Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/kirstybrewster Coding, saxophone, rock climbing, filmmaking, improv, community service. What do these things have in common? These are some of my various passions from over the years. They might look completely random in relation to each other, but they actually illustrate why my career path ultimately led to software engineering. With rock climbing, I was drawn to the problem solving nature of it. Due to different body types, routes (also called “problems”) have to be approached in unique ways. Almost no one will climb a problem the exact same way. Similarly, when writing a screenplay for a short film, I loved how it was like solving a puzzle to take various plot points and turn them into a compelling narrative. With constraints such as a strict budget and limited locations for filming, I also had to get creative with how I filmed. When acting in improv shows, I had to be ready to say “yes, and” to whatever my stage partners threw at me. When I played the saxophone, I always loved performing in large ensembles and creating beautiful music with my bandmates. It isn’t an individual experience; you have to really listen to the people around you to put on a great performance. I was drawn to non-profit work because I always wanted to help others and make an impact in my community. As a program leader at Latinitas, I got to inspire the next generation of women to pursue careers in media and tech. The skills I’ve cultivated from these passions will serve me well as a budding software engineer. I get to use my problem solving skills to debug. I get to be creative when designing apps and features. I get to work with other engineers to create products that help people on an even larger scale, and I get to be a lifelong learner in an industry that is constantly evolving. If you’re looking for someone who’s seeking to expand their expertise in coding, who will also draw inspiration from other areas in order to innovate and creatively solve tough problems, I’m your gal. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Developer @ Voyatek Jan 2026 – Present ### Software Developer II @ Voyatek Jan 2022 – Present Secured major contract renewals by consistently exceeding client expectations with timely, high-quality deliverables.
