# Leonid Scott > Fullstack Software Engineer Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/leonid Full Stack Engineer specialized in Clojure technologies with experience climbing up and down the stack with technologies ranging from Reagent/React and Clojurescript to GraphQL, Clojure, Datomic, and Postgres. Deep experience working within small teams using agile practices. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Watchful Jan 2020 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area Watchful is an ML seed stage startup that speeds up Full Text Classification data labeling by an order of magnitude. Watchful achieves this by encoding a user’s concepts of membership (ex: Sports articles often contain the word ball) into heuristics used to create probabilistic hand labels across a user’s dataset. ▪ One of two front-end engineers to build a V2 User Interface to pave the way for new data modalities, integrations to third parties, and labeling tasks like Named Entity Recognition. Owned the epic for the final month: coordinated work for 5 engineers, decided on readiness to ship, reported directly to the CEO. ▪ Created the frontend auth-flow necessary introduce authenticated users across the Watchful ecosystem: ◦ Collaborated with backend counterpart to design and execute a RESTful authenticated API, and built the front end for Watchful’s user and admin console, Watchful Hub ◦ Created all user related interfaces in the watchful app, and gated authenticated functionality. ◦ Created and documented front end auth flows for both the Watchful application and Watchful Hub ▪ Increased engineering velocity by building a dev flow to mock API calls with high generality, allowing engineers to document desired API behavior in code. ### Software Engineer @ Workframe (Acquired by Newmark) Jan 2019 – Present | New York City Workframe is a commercial real estate web app that allows clients and brokers to navigate the complexity of large scale real estate deals. • Owned backend work from concept to completion for shared views, a new feature that allowed users to update project views in an intuitive way and share these views with other users while being consistent with Workframe’s permissioning system. • Created Latest Task Comment, a feature crucial to bringing in the business of a new class of brokers within commercial real estate giant Newmark Knight Frank. This feature highlighted the latest comment in a project as a field in an “all projects table” and allowed users to organize projects by this field. • Fixed front and backend bugs, including a site crashing bug in Workframe’s administration console. ### Optimization of Foils Using Evolutionary Computation @ University of Minnesota-Morris Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Morris Minnesota This project uses a technique known as Evolutionary Computation and a model known as Thin Aerofoil Theory to evolve foil(wing) shapes for a given set of fluid conditions: • Implemented Thin Aerofoil Theory, Lifting Line Theory, and a Hill Climbing Evolutionary Algorithm all in Clojure. • Published and Presented at MICS-2018 (Midwest Instructional and Computation Symposium). • Awarded Scholar of the College from the University of Minnesota Morris for this work. ### Vice Present, Concert Choir @ University of Minnesota-Morris Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Morris, Minnesota Participated as a Bass 2 member of the Concert Choir since the Fall of 2015. As Vice-President, crafted agendas, decided on choir related matters and worked with members of the choir to implement decisions. ### Computer Science Student Representitive @ University of Minnesota-Morris Jan 2016 – Jan 2019 | Morris, Minnesota Collected student input and generated draft designs for the remodeling of two computer science labs. Voted on behalf of computer science students in Computer Science discipline meetings and Science/Math Division meetings among faculty. ### Computer Science Club Officer @ University of Minnesota-Morris Jan 2015 – Jan 2019 | Morris, Minnesota Planned campus wide semesterly 24 hour LAN Parties, with attendance of up to 120 students. Planned educational coding dojos, and informational sessions of career paths in computer science. Officer Positions Include: Secretary (2015-16), Vice President (2016-17), President (2018) ### Digital Display Garden @ University of Minnesota-Morris Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Morris Minnesota The Digital Display Garden allowed visitors to scan QR codes to learn about, rate, and comment on flowers at the University of Minnesota West Central and Outreach Center’s Botanical Gardens. Garden staff used aggregated feedback from an admin console as well as excel files of raw data to improve garden layouts and compile public feedback on experimental flowers: • Practiced strict extreme programing style agile in which clients (master gardeners) drove the direction of the project sprint by sprint. • Created parser to dynamically populate the site’s content from a free form excel sheet inputted by staff in the admin console . • Created google charts for administrators to view aggregate data via garden heat maps, and combo charts. ### Teacher's Assistant @ University of Minnesota-Morris Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Morris, Minnesota Corrected student assignments, created rubrics, and held tutor sessions with students. Coordinated and graded with teaching faculty. ### Software Development Intern @ Roomkey Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Charlottesville, Virginia Area Roomkey is a hotel booking site with an extensive backend written entirely in Clojure. Internship focused on fixing a long running bug in Roomkey’s content system responsible for collecting ratings and comments on each of Roomkey’s hotels: • Discovered that Roomkey was getting incorrect ratings for thousands of hotels because of discrepancies between the name and location Roomkey had for a hotel, and our ratings supplier, Tripadvisor. • Worked with Roomkey’s in house data scientist to implement a Logistic Regression to solve the problem. Wrote a multi sheet CSV logging system to track the regression’s performance, and validated its success. • Wrote regression logic and tests, incorporated feedback from vigorous PR’s, and wrote documentation for this solution. ### Apprentice Wooden Boat Builder @ First Light Boatworks and Marine Railway Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Chatham, MA Assisted in building, and finish-work (varnishing, and painting) for several wooden boats. Restored, and maintained existing wooden boats. Maintained the boatyard, mooring field, and workshop areas. Maintained Sailboats: Flying Scot’s, Lasers, 420’s, catboats and Sunfish. ### FIRST Robotics Member @ FIRST Jan 2011 – Jan 2015 | Morris, Minnesota A member of FIRST robotics team 2538 in international FRC competitions for 5 years. Designed, built, and maintained mechanical elements in addition to the electrical infrastructure and code to support them. Advanced positions year by year from an apprentice, to a team member, to a programming lead, and finally to a team co-captain. ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Science University of Minnesota Morris ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/leonid-scott --- Source: https://flows.cv/leonid JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/leonid/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-31
