Eye Tracking Based Nystagmus Compensating System: Independent student ­initiated research to test viability of a system that uses real time eye tracking to move a display to compensate for eye movements caused by Nystagmus, a vision condition in which eyes make repetitive, uncontrolled movements, resulting in reduced vision.
- Use Python to code foveation finding algorithms into a calibration plugin that can be run with the Pupil Labs software by building it onto the existing plugin API.
- Utilize Matlab to analyze and visualize eye tracking data (1000’s of data points), find trends, design algorithms to find foveation points of people with Nystagmus, and present and update displays in real time.
- View and pull code from open source repositories, debug, and communicate with original developers to solve problems with adaptation to my project.
- Conducted 100+ hours of background research including literature reviews and meeting with experts at the Daroff­Dell'Osso Ocular Motility Laboratory at Case Western to discuss project approaches and limitations.
- Applied for and received IRB approval from Colgate University to test prototypes of the Nystagmus
compensating system on individuals with Nystagmus.
