Experience
2022 — Now
Technical lead on a year-long project to revamp and allow experimentation on Cooking’s paywall systems, implementing multiple A/B tests on paywall logic with variations on a free trial access period, metered page view count rules, and rotating allowlisted content. Defined and scoped all tasks and requirements with a team of 3 other engineers. Collaborated with cross-functional partners in product, data analytics, design, and QA. The winning experiment variants led to a 16% increase in subscription rates.
Rebuilt Cooking’s paywall and registration wall systems as part of a frontend replatforming effort, targeting specific refactorings and approaches to ensure new code would be service-driven and portable to any frontend consumer. Identified dramatic improvements and simplifications to API user identification logic, reducing the response time by 60% and size of data returned by 90% on average for one of Cooking’s most frequently called endpoints.
Architected deployment processes for on-demand code preview environments, using Terraform and Docker for containerized ECS deployments. This invaluable developer tool streamlined code review and QA processes for Cooking's ongoing re-platforming projects.
Managing daily deployments and ensuring overall site stability during week-long on-call rotations.
