Links below to projects I have worked on. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Mangomint Jan 2024 – Present ### Senior Software Engineer @ Khan Academy Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 - Developed a reusable rich-text editor that is intended for teachers and students to be able to use as part of Khan Academy’s new Writing Coach offering, utilizing Slate and React. The rich text editor saved content in Markdown, and styles were synchronized between the editor and viewer . Tests were written in Cypress to work around the limitations of testing contenteditable DOM nodes in Jest. ### Senior Software Engineer @ NoRedInk Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 - Maintain and develop a highly used education platform using Elm, Ruby, and Haskell. - Lead engineering efforts and teams in improving or developing new features. - Work with other teams to support their efforts as they interact in common areas of ownership. - Mentor and train new team members in company processes and responsibilities. - Act as ambassador for the company through podcasting, blogging, and developer community involvement. - During a months-long epic to implement learning modules, the epic lead left the company unexpectedly. I was tasked with bringing the epic to completion, which I was able to do by the established due date. The work from this epic was released as part of the August back-to-school season. - Led multiple projects as part of an effort to expand the assignment library to support teachers of classes in grades 3 to 5. These projects required multiple discussions and coordination with other teams to ensure that the requirements and task breakdowns were correct, and that end user needs were being met. ### Software Engineer @ This Dot, Inc Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 - Consult with multiple clients on complex web-based projects in multiple programming languages. - Create blog posts, podcasts, and video presentations to support the developer community. - Mentor junior developers, reviewing code and discussing processes. - Consulted with the Wikimedia Foundation on the Abstract Wikipedia/Wikifunctions project, primarily developing the basic frontend interface, implementing testing functionality into the Wikifunctions system, and supporting their migration to Vue 3 and Typescript. - Supported work for a large-scale online conference using React, Next.js, and third-party CMS’s. ### Full Stack Developer @ Daimler Trucks North America Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | Portland, Oregon Area - Senior developer on multiple projects for internal and external use. - Lead backend development, using Node.js, Next.js, Nuxt, Java, and .NET Core/C# - Lead design and implementation of relational database schemas using SQL Server and DB2. - Develop frontend single-page applications using React and Vue (both server-rendered and client-rendered). - Use Jenkins/GitLab for CI/CD pipeline. - Deploy services using Docker containers in IBM UrbanCode environments. - Create alerts and reports using Splunk. - Assess issues with applications and report findings to business using SonarQube. - Analyze data from end users and discuss with business - Present modern technologies and methodologies to established teams (2019) As the sole full-stack developer, initiated and successfully deployed application for internal use by Daimler Trucks, implementing Next.js and Express for the UI server, and Spring Boot for the API server, both hosted using Docker. Application was successfully deployed two months ahead of schedule. (2019 - present) Current project is external-facing tool for guided diagnostics and repair of Daimler Trucks vehicles. As lead backend developer, designed and implemented relational database schema in SQL Server, and developed multiple services running on Node.js, Java Spring Boot, and .NET Core to handle APIs for the application. Also worked with the development team to architect a Vue single page application for the UI. Contract position through ProFocus. ### Developer @ Self Employed Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 Build full stack web applications using Vue, React, Node, and Firebase for clients. Find hosting solution for the apps, as well as offering to host and maintain them. ### Owner @ Wardell IT Jan 2015 – Jan 2019 | Portland, Oregon Area • Provide computer and technology-related services to individuals and small businesses. • Perform all actions related to maintaining personal computers, including virus removal, networking, software installation, and general hardware maintenance. • Recommend new hardware or software purchases and implementation, as required. ### Full Stack Developer @ Lindsey Forwarders, Inc Jan 2015 – Jan 2019 | Portland, Oregon Area - Administer and update legacy software, ensuring continued compatibility with modern business needs. - Initiate development of and build new freight forwarding software to replace legacy systems using Vue, Node.JS, and Express, targeting multiple browsers including IE. - Work with end users to build quality UX solutions. - Build graphics using Adobe Photoshop. - Assess current practices and technical solutions. Recommend and implement changes as needed. - Communicate all IT procedures to employees. Maintain IT operations manual for the business. (2015) Built a fleet of new PCs for use by all employees. Managed the upgrade to Windows 10 for all PCs. Created missing IT documentation for the company. (2016) Built a rate matrix application to track shipping costs between various ports for multiple shipping lines per client. Application was able to export an Excel sheet as a PDF that could be emailed to the client. (2017) While the owner was unable to work, I stepped into the role of Operations Manager and kept the business running and profitable. (2018) Designed and updated WordPress site for the company, including designing a new logo. (2018-2019) Architected and produced custom freight forwarding software, which allows clients to have accounts and request bookings. This software also allows the company to process client data in order to make improved business decisions. This application merged the existing rate matrix application with other processes to increase the speed of documentation output and made data more accessible to employees. ### Front End Developer Intern @ Prosper IT Consulting Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Portland, Oregon Area Contributed to www.bewander.com development as a team member.
