The IMC department’s goal was to make the student support sites more visually appealing so that it might encourage students to use it. The sites were created as a means for students to not only find the resources and information they need but to relieve faculty and staff of common questions and requests. Core Work: The scope of expectations of the initial ask was relatively narrow–mainly creating graphics and fiddling with HTML to make pages feel more accessible and readable. In addition to my own perspective as a student user, I conducted a few simple interviews of other students to gauge criticisms of the site and Canvas experience. Based on these insights and UX principles, I proposed not only a fresh system of graphics but a complete restructuring of the site organization. My idea would spread the information across more pages and limit the number of clickable choices while using communicative graphics and categories to create an easy way to navigate. This would prevent overwhelming users (especially on mobile) while encouraging them to explore without feeling stuck at dead-ends. I essentially rebuilt the site for students in time for the Class of 2019. Outcomes: Canvas offers very limited data on usage of the site but the goal was achieved in increasing student use and decrease in requests. This led to the Associate Dean commissioning for the new design and structure to be adapted for student sites for 2020, the Part-Time students site, and the online students site. Currently, I am conducting a similar renovation of the faculty support site with elements adapted for faculty needs. So What: I demonstrated that I can create simple yet elegant solutions for user experience, especially with regards to moderating and controlling the flow of information. ### Product Management Intern @ BestReviews Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco Bay Area BestReviews is a product reviews company that was acquired by Tribune Publishing in 2018. Work Done: The majority of the work revolved around a new feature of the BestReviews website, a quiz-like personalized recommendation tool. It was the centerpiece of strategic product development for 2018. I was involved with helping deploy and test a beta version of the tool and coordinating with designers and developers towards making incremental design improvements. For the pages I was responsible for, I conducted quality assurance tests with help from the content team and ran A/B tests to analyze the impact of this new tool on user purchases at our affiliate partners Amazon, Walmart and Jet. My most important task was to design and lead an annual user study. The main objective was to gain user insight into successes or failures of the product recommendation tool. Based on this study I would provide an analysis of the results and recommendations. I created the recruitment screener, conducted subject outreach and sampling. I devised a remote test that asked users to interact with pages as I recorded and observed their actions, decisions and confusions. I also conducted brief interviews about their backgrounds and web purchasing habits. Outcomes/Results: I conducted 17 interviews of users from across the United States of ages ranging from 18 to 65+. I synthesized the insights and analyzed information from the screener survey. Based on these findings, I created a slide deck and presented results and recommendations to senior leadership and executives including the product lead, CCO and CEO. So What: This was my first formal entry into a product space and I swiftly and capably stepped up to the role. Domain knowledge in content and design aided my ability to collaborate. I was also responsible for a successfully substantive user study that made a direct impact on the product. ### Creative Strategist @ Idea Booth Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Greater Chicago Area Idea Booth is a boutique creative/digital agency with clients of various sizes spanning numerous industries. Work/Responsibilities: At Idea Booth, I wore many hats. Given my editorial background, my initial responsibilities mainly involved strategic content. From super short-form on social to longer columns, I developed content as a copywriter and ghostwriter. Because Idea Booth was such a collaborative environment, I also occasionally assisted with content production by supporting set direction or acting as secondary photographer for internal content development. I was later given opportunities to support the Creative Lead with industry research and competitive analysis in support of developing creative briefs for clients. Initially intended to help the Creative Lead grasp the context of our clients’ problems and gain familiarity with the space our clients competed in, my thoroughness and analytical thinking led to increased responsibility and autonomy in developing digital content strategies. I played a part in most of our accounts, from support and review to leading strategy development. I also served a key role in developing Idea Booth’s personal branding initiative–Anonymous–targeted specifically to executive-level clients. Alongside the Head Editor, we developed the client on-boarding and content development process. Outcomes: I was involved with developing digital strategies for clients in a variety of industries including fine dining, entertainment, business leadership and education. Moreover, through the execution and management of some of these strategies, I learned to adopt various brand voices ranging from national bread brands to bank CEO turned Army veteran. So What: I’m more than just a writer or editor. I can develop communications that not only has a distinctive brand voice but fit into a bigger roadmap that addresses specific business goals on multiple platforms, especially on owned and earned media. ### Marketing Intern @ NeonCRM Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Greater Chicago Area NeonCRM a software company that creates SaaS solutions for the nonprofit industry. Work: I was primarily responsible for managing content across customer touchpoints as part of inbound marketing strategy. This included operating the blog which included writing and editing posts, coordinating cross-posting, adding artwork, optimizing for search and sharing on social media. I also managed the newsletters that went out to clients and leads and aided in coordinating biweekly webinars. In collaboration with client services, I designed case studies into eBooks. Later, I led the remaining parts of a recent website overhaul. In addition to writing copy for several of the key feature pages, I led an assessment of the website. This involved an analysis of user behaviors based on HotJar heatmaps, Hubspot conversion metrics and Google Analytics reports. I also benchmarked key competitors. Following such research, I proposed and executed a redesign of the homepage and adjustments to the navbar. I also wrote and designed all the pages in what is now the 'Missions' section of the site. I was also tasked with interviewing active and long-standing clients to identify the successes Neon has afforded them as well as problems they still struggle with. Results/Outcomes: I had a major influence on the NeonCRM website. My efforts on improving the website contributed to a YOY 68.9% growth in site visitors and a record high in visitor volume and growth rate. I was also involved in writing copy and supporting design on the website for Neon's new product: Raise. So What: I took initiative and learned quickly. I gained the ability to write long to super-short form content that meets business goals and enhances digital experiences for users. I demonstrated that I could communicate technical subject matter in language a specific audience can understand. I gained competency in inbound marketing, content marketing, brand strategy, the nonprofit industry, CRM software and CMS platforms. ### Sergeant, Language Specialist — English (Interpreter/Translator) @ Combined Forces Command Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 | Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Korea I am a dual national of the United States and Republic of Korea. My citizenship to the latter required military service. I enlisted as a military interpreter/translator for the English language. The ROK-US Combined Forces Command (CFC) is the warfighting headquarters of the ROK-US alliance and also co-operates as the UN forces command of the allied coalition. In other words, in wartime, it commands all allied military operations. I was specifically assigned to the combined-joint engineer staff (CFEN). I translated for Korean and American engineer officers from all branches of service including the CFEN Assistant Chief of Staff (ACofS), a ROK Army Brigadier General. In my time in service, I participated in three annual combined military exercises. I helped translate and edit key parts of the engineer chapters and appendices of the allied operation plan. I have translated several field manuals concerning combined forces' engineering equipment and interpreted for various combined field training events on behalf of the CFEN ACofS. I was also heavily involved with allied efforts for countering explosive hazards and improvised explosive devices (C-EH/IED) on operations, strategic and tactical levels. This included interpreting at the tactical level for training combat engineer and special forces units and on the strategic/operation level for training action officers to use reporting and data management software. So what: My experiences as a military translator has taught me invaluable lessons about communication, teamwork and perseverance under pressure. I am capable of quickly learning technical material and also to communicate such topics to more layman listeners. I trained to not only be a collaborator but a mediator. ### Editorial Intern @ Groove Korea Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 - Provided editorial and translation support for 3 monthly issues - Wrote editorials and adverts - Reported/edited features on entertainment and arts ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Journalism Northwestern University ### Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism; Minor in Business Institutions Northwestern University ### High School in Global Leader Program Bugil Academy ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/louis-eunsang-oh - Portfolio: https://www.louisoh.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/louiseunsangoh JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/louiseunsangoh/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-29
