As a resident assistant, I serve as mediator, mentor, educator, and facilitator. I helped students forming a community so that they could feel like home during their college career. To do so, I plan fun social programs to allow students to meet each other and create long lasting friendships. I plan 4 suite socials and one building social per quarter. I learned how to be flexible with my schedule and strengthen my organization skill. I also have 5 hours duty 5 times a quarter and a 3 hours staff meeting every Tuesday which we plan a large scale program for the whole Sixth College residents. The position strengthens my multitasking skill, time management, and communication among a large diverse team. I educate my residents about social justice, mental health, sexual health, and etc. At Sixth College, we have the smallest budget for programming compared to the other colleges, this allows me to learn how to manage all the funding and utilize all resources that our school has, to plan amazing programs for my residents. In addition, as a resident assistant, I serve as a mediator for 53 students. For example, if there is a student who has a roommate conflict that cannot be resolved, I facilitate a meeting where both students come together to discuss the issue. With the experience from this position, I learn how to utilize resources and funding for the program and learn how to work as a team to educate students and create a community at Sixth College.
