# Mainor Claros > Señor Full Stack Engineer Location: Austin, Texas, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/mainor I write pleasant software meant to last. The first phase of my career had me creating top quality, niche experiences for audiences with keen eyes and high standards (beauty and fashion). I was taught immaculate attention to detail and learned to provide within small teams. I saw the difference between good-enough software, and friendly software: trustworthy, intuitive, and rewarding. The former makes me a professional but the latter makes me a craftsman. These days my sights are on the systems side of things. My day-to-day brings faster operations and clearer workflows. Instead of composing captivating experiences, I forge the foundation that enables them. I bring UX sensitivity and a healthy dose of reliability/security paranoia to the table :). I have a wide breadth of knowledge across the web stack. I've worked briefly with Go and Elm, am proficient at SQL and Python, and am excellent at Ruby (on Rails), JavaScript (ES6+ and TypeScript; Vue.js, React), and, of course, HTML and CSS. On that latter point, I've picked up more niche CSS skills and design intuition than one might expect from a software dev. I've also worked through many frontend requirements and know what works and what doesn't in areas including performance, responsive design, SEO, analytics, internationalization (I18n), accessibility (A11Y), and security. But, a skill I'm particularly proud of is an underrated one: giving solid, thorough code reviews. I value clarity, speed, and longevity, but I'm no "rockstar." I can't recite top algorithms by heart (I studied *Cognitive* Science, "the other CS"), nor will you see me organizing events or giving talks (not yet anyway). But paired with a proficient team, I've never had trouble getting up to speed. Long-term I'm growing toward roles focused on security and reliability, venturing out from much experience in product/feature teams. Interested in: - backend, security, and reliability side of things - Go, TypeScript, Ruby - Vue, Svelte, or good ol' server side rendering Less interested in: - pure frontend roles, unless following rigorous standards Not interested in: - blockchain/crypto/NFT - Python, React, Angular I'm not sure why people keep finding/using my old, unused email addresses, but you can instead reach me at: contactme[at]mainorclaros[dot]com ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ INDY Jan 2023 – Present | Austin, Texas, United States (We got acquired!) We're taking over the worldwide cinema industry. Quietly, until suddenly not. As a senior full stack engineer, I work on foundational features reaching wide across the stack, notably application security and I18n features. I also do a lot of code reviews and help raise the quality of our code, fault tolerance, and product user friendliness. As one of the engineers in the team with most experience with both RoR and Vue.js, I spend much time introducing ways to leverage our tools and good habits including: introducing test frameworks and patterns, leveraging and extending core Ruby on Rails functionality, raising awareness of good and bad UI/UX patterns, introducing performance optimizations, and encouraging simpler and more maintainable patterns of frontend development (there are too many ways to shoot yourself in the foot therein). ### Senior Software Engineer II @ GoodRx Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Santa Monica, California, United States Top of funnel feature development and experimentation. GoodRx fulfills a critical need for Americans: access to affordable healthcare. More than a source for prescription discounts, GoodRx is rapidly growing into the online hub for all things healthcare. At GoodRx, I enjoy the opportunity to expand my expertise in technologies I've had little experience in otherwise, and to a degree of rigor that has raised my expectations of how software should be written. I'm grateful to learn from the many teams eager to leverage the latest technologies, in a responsible manner, tackling a highly relevant problem space. Whilst I continue to hope for societal improvements in healthcare, I'm glad to have my efforts impact people's lives positively, today. ### Senior Software Engineer I @ GoodRx Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Santa Monica, California, United States In addition to the described above, briefly worked on mobile apps features. ### Full Stack Software Engineer @ GoodRx Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Los Angeles Metropolitan Area Content platform development, Discovery - Growth. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Joymode Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | Greater Los Angeles Area Operations software and performance optimization. Joymode gives you everything you need to have memorable experiences, without the need to buy stuff. Pick your items, get them delivered, enjoy them as long as you want, and then switch them with something new when you're ready—all while saving money and reducing waste. Joymode's mission is to create a world where what we do is defined by what we can imagine, not what we own. Let yourself throw that party, delight your kids, practice new skills, or go on an adventure with access to fun and useful stuff! Joymode faces challenges not typically found in e-commerce. Our inventory comes back, times and places matter, and our service touches customers' personal lives. As part of the operations team, my work has immediate impact on these factors, and I get feedback for my work just as quickly. I, for one, can appreciate the irony of working in a team that values ownership, whose mission it is to reduce the need for ownership. ### Full Stack Software Engineer @ Joymode Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Greater Los Angeles Area Operations software, performance optimization, and consumer web UI development. Primarily Ruby on Rails and Vue.js. ### Senior Software Engineer @ DRINKS Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Greater Los Angeles Area Full-stack e-commerce feature development. Payments, subscriptions, content, and inventory management. As DRINKS grew in both size and sophistication, there was greater need for backend optimization and API development. I once again donned my generalist hat and served as liaison between frontend, backend, and QA teams. ### Frontend Engineer @ DRINKS Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Greater Los Angeles Area Frontend feature development, designs implementation, and refactoring of legacy framework for communication with new APIs. DRINKS is a leader in digital Direct-to-Consumer wine retail, with sights set on big data and novel operational solutions. The wine market is massive, yet barriers to entry remain high, making it an ideal target for disruption. I joined as a Frontend Engineer to develop my expertise with client-side technologies, which I felt needed work. ### Software Engineer @ VIOLET GREY Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | West Hollywood, CA Frontend optimization and UI development, e-commerce backend support. ### Jr. Software Engineer @ VIOLET GREY Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 | West Hollywood, CA Website performance/UI, CMS feature development, data aggregation. VIOLET GREY began with a bold mission: to be the voice of luxury beauty, from the world of Hollywood and beyond. It proceeded to become at once an editorial, e-commerce, and bricks-and-mortar destination with an eye for design. Leveraging the latest technologies, we accomplished much in the realms of retail, operations, and digital publishing. As a developer within a small team, I got to work on pretty much everything. ## Education ### Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science University of California, Berkeley Jan 2009 – Jan 2013 ### University of California Education Abroad Program Lund University Jan 2012 – Jan 2012 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/mclaros --- Source: https://flows.cv/mainor JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/mainor/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
