# Maish Simon > Head of Databases UX @ AWS | Leading Design for Database Services | Building the Next-Generation, AI-Driven Cloud Experience | Forbes 30 under 30 | GID Board of Advisors @ Foothill College Location: San Jose, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/maish Managing and leading Databases UX at Amazon Web Services, owning design for services such as RDS, Aurora, Dynamo DB, and the new DSQL service. My mission is to make complex technical systems intuitive, actionable, and trustworthy through thoughtful design. I lead a team of designers focused on simplifying the end-to-end database management experience. Our work redefines how developers interact with cloud data, through ease-of-use focused console experiences, onboarding flows, and design systems used across AWS. I bring over a decade of experience spanning startups and large-scale enterprise design — from co-founding a tech venture recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 to shaping multi-service design strategies at AWS. I thrive at the intersection of design, product strategy, and emerging technology, and I’m currently exploring how generative AI can reshape design workflows and amplify creative output. I was also recently nominated to be an Amazon Design Bar Raiser – 55+ person team dedicated to raising the bar for design talent at Amazon. I’m passionate about helping teams think bigger, connecting the dots between systems, and design experiences that drive both customer and business impact. I thrive on building AI into both process and product, experimenting, and working backwards from customer needs. ## Work Experience ### Head of UX, AWS Databases @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2022 – Present | East Palo Alto, California, United States Managing and leading UX for AWS’s Database organizations, shaping the vision and design strategy across eight services including RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, DMS, and the next-generation Aurora DSQL service. My team defines how millions of developers interact with data in the cloud globally — building toward a Generative-AI-first experience that simplifies database management at scale. Under my leadership, we launched two major services: • Aurora DSQL – a new flagship database praised at AWS re:Invent 2024 • Oracle Databases @ AWS – a collaboration announced at Oracle CloudWorld 2024 We've also delivered over 150 features annually, many of which featured in main stage keynotes at AWS re:Invent. I've grown a 14-person design team and contributed to the hiring of many other teams across AWS CX. I partner with Principal Engineers, PMs, and VPs to align design direction with technical and business strategy. I’m leading the early definition of a Generative AI design vision for AWS Databases — exploring how intelligent guidance and automation can transform customer workflows. I’ve conducted 100+ design and leadership interviews across Amazon and was recently nominated to join the Amazon Design Bar Raisers, a core group of ~55 global Amazonian designers responsible for maintaining the high hiring bar for all of Amazon design. I also established a unified agile UX practice in Databases UX, a mechanism now being emulated across our broader CX organization, embedding AI-supported tools to improve velocity, consistency, and design quality. My mission: scaling design leadership that turns complexity into clarity — and shaping the future of database experiences through human-centered, AI-informed design. ### Lead UX Designer @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | East Palo Alto, California, United States ### Sr. UX Designer @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | East Palo Alto, California, United States ### Design Leadership Forum Member @ InVision Jan 2020 – Jan 2024 ### Principal Product Designer @ Qventus, Inc Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | Mountain View, CA Built the company’s first design system, unifying a previously disparate product suite into a cohesive “One Qventus” experience.
