As an RA, I was responsible for fostering a sense of community among residents, addressing resident concerns and helping them navigate their first year at college, and enforcing residential life policy in the building. I planned and facilitated a number of events and discussions, including regular floor meetings as well as events focused on building skills necessary to be successful at college or exploring how to communicate across cultural differences. I met with residents on my floor twice a semester one-on-one to build better relationships with them, understand their goals and struggles, and provide what advice I could to help them achieve those goals. I worked on a team of 12 and met frequently with my colleagues and my supervisor to communicate potential issues with them. Additionally, once or twice a week I was "RA on Duty," and remained in a public location in the building in case residents needed help, as well as patrolled through the residence hall to proactively address and building or resident issues. ### Undergraduate Course Assistant @ University of Massachusetts Amherst Jan 2015 – Jan 2018 | Amherst, MA As an Undergraduate Course Assistant, I created and graded assignments for both the college's Intro to Data Structures course as well as a course on Software Engineering. For the Data Structures class, I graded weekly in-class assignments that focused on allowing students to exercise various topics they were learning in lectures. For the Software Engineering class, I researched and wrote a case study and group assignments focused around various stages of software development planning (use case planning, data-flow diagrams, ER diagrams, etc.) and later graded these assignments. For both classes, I met weekly with the course professor or TAs to discuss student performance, concerns, and direction. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Carbon Black, Inc. I implemented the server-side portion of a new password-protected uninstall feature, which included extending database schema, adding logic to generate the password, adding routes for communication between the backend and sensor, and updating the user interface to enable the user to retrieve or update the password. I also assisted in greater QA automation efforts, writing both unit and system tests for various aspects of the product. I primarily worked in Java, Python, and Javascript (Node.js and React). I participated in daily standup meetings and other Scrum rituals, and partook in the company's quarterly planning meeting with the rest of the engineering staff. As part of the internship program, I also participated in workshops on both a variety of the company's operations and career development. ### Human-Machine Interface Design Intern @ Rousselot Peabody Inc Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Peabody, MA My primary role was to assist in the maintenance and upgrade of a variety of RS View, Control View, and Wonderware factory process control interfaces that operators would use on a daily basis. I fulfilled operator requests for new features in their control screens, updated outdated components, and aided the efforts to upgrade older Control View projects to newer systems. I also designed and created an automated tool which would print out a daily temperature chart for a sterilizer which was previously being done by an operator manually each day. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Science, French and Francophone Studies University of Massachusetts Amherst Jan 2014 – Jan 2018 ### High School Phillips Academy Jan 2010 – Jan 2014 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/makenzieschwartz - Website: https://mws96.github.io --- Source: https://flows.cv/makenzie JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/makenzie/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
