As an Instructor Assistant for two Kode With Klossy Code-A-Bration programs, I supported fast-paced, two-day coding experiences that introduced high school girls and gender-expansive youth to the fundamentals of web development and machine learning. Each event brought together diverse groups of first-time coders, and my role centered around creating a welcoming, inclusive, and empowering learning environment where every participant felt confident and capable.
I helped facilitate hands-on workshops covering topics such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AI/ML using tools like Teachable Machine. I provided real-time troubleshooting, personalized feedback, and one-on-one support to help students build fully customized passion projects that reflected their unique identities and interests. From calming nerves to celebrating creative breakthroughs, I played a key part in ensuring students stayed engaged and excited throughout the entire experience.
Between the two CodeABrations, I adapted my support style to meet each cohort’s pace and needs, whether that meant simplifying technical explanations, offering additional encouragement, or helping refine project ideas. These experiences deepened my skills in technical mentorship, instructional communication, and inclusive pedagogy. More importantly, they reinforced my commitment to making tech education accessible and joyful, especially for students who might not otherwise see themselves in STEM spaces.
