# Mara Nelson > Software Engineer, Apple (via Bayside Solutions) Location: New Haven, Connecticut, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/maranelson Currently contracting with Apple's Wallets and Payments division as an internal tooling engineer. My work involves collaborating with stakeholders to ideate, design, and deliver product features and enhancements. Over my professional career I've worked with numerous groups to enhance their processes with the development of web based software. By leveraging my knowledge of User Experience (UX) design I ensure that the applications I work on utilize research proven methods that improve the everyday interactions of its users. In my current position, I regularly work in Javascript (React and Node), Java, and MySQL. Before working as a software developer I was in a PhD program in mathematics. Part of my role as a graduate student was lecturing and in my pursuit of being a better educator, I learned about Universal Design for Learning, which eventually led me to UX Design. It was here that I honed my skills in communicating complex topics, efficiently absorbing large amounts of information, and crafting realistic plans for tackling large projects. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer (Full-Stack) @ Bayside Solutions Jan 2022 – Present | New York, New York, United States • Partnered directly with product stakeholders to define requirements and served as the principal developer for Apple's Wallet & Payments’ incident management tooling (React/Java), delivering key analytics utilized by upper management. • Eliminated a critical bottleneck in incident metadata management by leading a team of two through a complex project involving DB/backend refactoring and migration, delivering a self-service web tool that empowered IM leaders and improved data auditability. • Drove UI consistency and adherence to company style guides by building reusable components using the internal design system, improving code maintainability and accelerating feature development. • Mentored new team members participating in a 6-month rotation program, accelerating their onboarding and proficiency in React, Redux, and general frontend development. ### Software Engineer (Full Stack) @ Institute for Transportation Research and Education Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 • Engineered a full-stack, semi-automated data auditing application, implementing a RESTful API (Node.js, Express, MySQL) and a dynamic data visualization dashboard (JavaScript, Chart.js). • Automated data monitoring processes (data pulls, QA scripts, status reports), improving data accuracy and reducing manual reporting time. • Designed, implemented, and deployed a full-stack web application for transportation system drivers using React and Node.js deployed on AWS. ### Teaching Graduate Student @ North Carolina State University Jan 2016 – Jan 2021 • Taught Precalculus, Calculus I, and Discrete Maths to over 150 students while being the lead instructor of 4 undergraduate courses. • Scored at or above the departmental mean in 16 of 16 and 10 of 12 student evaluation metrics in the last two courses taught. ### Instructor @ Duke University Talent Identification Program Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Davidson, North Carolina, United States ### Research Assistant @ Cell Signaling Technology (CST) Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 • Leveraged graph theory definitions of centrality to identify DNA sequencing artifacts.
