# Margo Smith > Experienced full stack / frontend software engineer applying my skills to climate change problems. Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/margosmith ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ Sealed Jan 2024 – Present ### Senior Software Engineer @ Indigo Jan 2020 – Jan 2024 ### Software Engineer, Search Platforms Team @ Google Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area The Search Platforms Team worked on improving the speed and performance of the search results page. This included essential image and rendering optimizations, as well as creative UI changes to improve the user perception of latency. I worked on Soft/Express Transitions, a project to issue async requests for the next search results page on a refinement click (i.e. “People Also Search For”) and use javascript animation to seamlessly transition from one page to the next while pre-filling the next page with cached data. ### Software Engineer, Explore Team @ Google Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area The Explore Team designed, prototyped, built, and ran experiments on new features for the search results page. Some features I worked on included PDF Previews (adding thumbnail preview images and metadata to PDF results) and Visual Web (updating the rendering for thumbnail images on individual web results on mobile search pages and experimenting with many other UI updates and interaction changes). ### Software Engineer, Web Team @ Venmo Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | New York City Metropolitan Area The Web Team managed all of Venmo’s web presence from venmo.com to webviews that appear within the native apps. Specific projects included rewriting the logged out payment links page, rewriting the settings pages, and rewriting the developer site using React and Redux as well as contributing to a full app rewrite in React/Redux. ### Tutor @ Pinnacle Prep Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 | Brooklyn, New York I tutored students for the SAT/ACT and provided subject specific support in math, chemistry, biology, physics, and environmental science. ### Computational Modeler @ Weill Cornell Medical College Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 | New York City, New York Created and used computational models of cardiac electrophysiology to study the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation. Specifically, I created a patient specific model of atrial fibrillation using a 3D structure generated from CAT scan imaging of the patients heart, and electrical information from monophasic action potential catheter recordings. I then ran simulations and analyzed simulations aimed at fully understanding the spatial and electrical causes of atrial fibrillation in that specific patient. This research will hopefully soon provide justification for novel treatements of atrial fibrillation. ### Research in Industrial Projects for Students @ UCLA Jan 2011 – Jan 2011 | Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics Improved the search capabilities of the USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive by incorporating a geo-semantic ranking algorithm into their existing interface. ## Education ### Certificate in Carpentry/Carpenter Laney College Jan 2020 ### Web Development in Javascript Recurse Center Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 ### Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Neuroscience Kenyon College Jan 2008 – Jan 2012 ### Back End Web Development General Assembly Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 ### Data Science General Assembly Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 ### Mathematics Budapest Semester in Mathematics Jan 2011 – Jan 2011 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/margoleesmith - Website: http://margoleesmith.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/margosmith JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/margosmith/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
