# Mason Friedberg > Engineer | Designer | Pilgrim Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/masonfriedberg I am an engineer and designer working at the threshold of functionality and aesthetics. With a mechanical engineering and product design background, I am able to combine mechanical design with industrial design, all while considering how people will interact with, and feel using a product. I am someone who strives to solve complex problems in innovative ways. A high quality and determined work ethic are attributes of which I put forth toward any job. One characteristic I possess in particular is the ability to learn and absorb knowledge quickly and apply this to new situations. I enjoy learning and researching new information, as well as working within a team to meet challenging goals. Delivering quality in what I do has always been a priority, no matter the project or goal. With an aspiration to learn how things work and what could make them better, I am constantly gaining new knowledge. My desire is to continue to expand my knowledge in the fields of engineering and design, while continuing to innovate in industry. ## Work Experience ### Group Manager | Design and Development @ Exploratorium Jan 2023 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States • Managing a cross functional team of engineers and designers on internal and global collaboration projects • Leading process development for project scope through concept development, prototyping, and production • Conducting high-quality exhibit engineering and product design to conceptualize and develop interactive experiences for users • Collaborating cross-functionally to implement proper materials, colors, and finishes for continuous design language • Engineering analysis of parts and assemblies to bring scientific phenomena to fruition • Utilizing physical engineering tools to prototype, build, and test components of various materials ### Exhibit Engineer | Design and Development @ Exploratorium Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States ### Design Fellow @ University of California, Berkeley Jan 2024 – Present | Berkeley, California, United States • Advising undergraduate and graduate students on project work, career development, and personal growth • Given guest lectures at Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation in DES INV 15: Design Methodology, DES INV 10: Discovering Design, and DES INV 190: Human Centered Design Methods ### Freelance Product Designer @ Freelance, self-employed Jan 2020 – Jan 2024 • Working with companies and organizations to craft products and experience that compliment brand • Mechanical design through engineering tools and analysis • Industrial design through design thinking methods, concept sketches, and renders ### Industrial Design Engineer @ Creator Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 • Lead full aesthetic design of next generation robot revolving around human-centered experience. • Forged restaurant and brand design to cultivate emotional connection with customers • Worked cross-functionally between hardware engineering and product to create beautiful and functional system design. • Initiated design through concept sketches, 3D modeling, and physical builds of 'works-like' and 'looks-like' prototypes. • Collaborated across multiple system teams to foster a creative development environment. ### Mechanical Design Engineer Intern -
