# Matin Seadat > Manager, Product Design  Hiring Mechanisms/Robotics Engineers Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/matinseadat Passionate to create products that make our lives more exciting:) ## Work Experience ### Manager, Product Design @ Apple Jan 2020 – Present Hiring exceptional mechanical engineers with experience and passion for product design with mechanisms/robotics background. Technical lead and manager for design, analysis, build and validation of ultra-light, compact, high performance mechanisms. ### Product Design Engineer @ Apple Jan 2020 – Present Member of Apple Vision Pro, design team. Helped ship Apple’s latest and most complex product yet. Designed ultra-lightweight electro-mechanical systems. Dozens of patents on: • Linear actuators (stepper/BLDC motors+planetary gearbox and lead-screws). • Magnetic Hall effect encoders and their system integration (<25um resolution, <300um precision). • Flexurized high-precision mounts. • Bespoke miniature contact sensors (trigger threshold <5N). • Textile/fabric enclosures design and optimization to maintain A-class cosmetics + low stiffness (critical to function for actuator force budgets). • Linear and rotary guide systems with low backlash. ### Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) Mechanical Engineer @ NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 Member of the EDL architecture development team for Mars Sample Return Lander. Performed trade studies, architecture sizing analyses, and design of composite/metallic primary and secondary structures, mechanisms and separation systems of the entry vehicle. The EDL team at JPL is responsible for pioneering breakthrough mechanical systems, devices, and techniques for planetary entry, descent, and landing, and supporting mechanical concept formulation. ### Mechanical Engineer @ NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Jan 2016 – Jan 2020 Responsible engineer for design, analysis, test, and integration of the Docking mechanism for Mars 2020 (Perseverance) rover. Part of validation and failure analysis team for the Docking mechanism and multiple other actuator driven systems. System successfully operational on Mars, since February 2021. ### Mechanical Engineer @ SpaceX Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Greater Los Angeles Area Designed stage separation fixture for dynamic testing. Analyzed part strength and modal response using ANSYS. Parts were used for flight hardware random vibe qualification test. Created drawings for qualification test hardware using NX and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Implemented process improvements for test plans and inspections by designing mylar and vinyl wraps that will save on average 250 NDT hours per tank. Increased manufacturing rate of COPV struts using Design of Experiments (DOE) and Minitab to refine acceptance criteria. ### Team Lead (Capstone Project) @ OnRobot A/S Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 As part of Perception Robotics team and USC Senior Design course recruited and led a team of 4 to design a robotic arm that can attach to satellites or International Space Station (ISS). Calculated loads on components and the assembly to determine primary load paths. Used SolidWorks FEA to reduce weight by 5 lbs while maintaining required axial and torsional rigidity Performed tolerance stack up to ensure proper tolerancing of components using GD&T. Machined aluminum and steel parts with the mill, lathe, and CNC for the robotic arm. ### Mechanical Engineer @ OnRobot A/S Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | Los Angeles, California Cut fabrication costs by $6000 and eliminated outside contractors to improve product shipping time by assembling an in-house CNC machine and produced molds in-house with CAM Increased sensor precision by 33% while reducing volume by 40% by designing a data acquisition system in MATLAB for quality control and calibration of sensors (I was employed by Perception Robotics which merged with OnRobot on June 11, 2018: onrobot.com) ### CATIA Tech Consulting - Systems Engineering @ Dassault Systèmes Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Woodland Hills, California Developed a system level simulation for a self-driving car. Built a collision avoidance algorithm using a closed loop control logic algorithm in 3 months Systems model included and demonstrated optimization capabilities within the model for parametric tweaking of safety systems such as ABS, ESP, road detection, and active lane change Presented the project to a panel of more than 50 senior consultants. The solution presented was selected for implementation into future strategies and clients ### Powertrain Design Engineer @ USC Racing - Formula SAE Team Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 Built and tested an engine dynamometer (dyno) to help measure engine output. Optimized ECU parameters increasing engine performance by 15 hp. and 10 lb-ft of torque Responsible engineer for design, optimization, and manufacturing of multiple chassis and powertrain components and assemblies ### 3D Printer @ Personal Project Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | Greater Los Angeles Area Designed and built an FDM 3D printer with 150-micron resolution using a combination of off-the-shelf components and custom parts. ### IT Tech Support @ USC Shoah Foundation - The Institute for Visual History and Education Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 Created and modified templates for SAMMA migration units utilizing previously unused High-Definition(HD) units to process Standard-Definition (SD) videos. Total of 9 units were recovered, reutilizing unused units($60k/ea.). ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Mechanical Engineering UCLA ### Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering University of Southern California ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/matinsb --- Source: https://flows.cv/matinseadat JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/matinseadat/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
