My first Northeastern co-op was at EPAM Continuum, a global innovation consultancy firm that had been recently acquired by EPAM. In this role, I gained hands-on experience in many key areas (including Firmware Engineering, Full Stack Web Development, Client Relations, Interdisciplinary Teamwork, and more).
Approximately 4 months of this co-op was spent doing contracted work for a human performance wearable company. They are best known for their advanced activity and fitness trackers worn by professional athletes. During the first few weeks I was responsible for various sensor and peripherals drivers. For about 3 months I worked on SPI communications between the main Maxim chip and the Nordic BLE chip. This was written in C with the QP framework for a HSM.
The other two months of the co-op were spent on an internal company time management system. This was a full stack (LAMP, Angular) web development task. This was significant work because it was the culmination of nearly 10 years of work by many software developers, and I was able to bring it to production.
