My interest shifted from the energy industry to the tech industry upon discovering a passion for computer science my third year at Berkeley. Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area - Developed four software packages in Python for Linux that test and analyze manufacturing integrity of touch sensors installed on printed circuit boards - Utilized Bluetooth Low Energy and AES to receive test data from manufactured devices - Implemented user interfaces with Tkinter - Developed test automation and data processing Python scripts for test procedures ### Software Engineer Internship @ Schlumberger Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Houston, Texas Area My summer internship project at Schlumberger was to design a web app that ensures the flawless installation of a complex pump failure prediction system for field engineers. I accomplished this by using a Tornado web server based in Python as the back end of the project, and built the front end to run on a web browser that receives real-time system parameter updates from the back end via WebSockets. I designed the UI to be as flexible as possible so that any system data received by the back end via RabbitMQ could be clearly displayed by the front end. Most importantly, I designed the UI to display 'health badges' next to each parameter which convey whether the parameter is within the ranges of three different states: 'OK', 'WARNING', or ' CRITICAL'. Ultimately, if every parameter is 'OK' after the pump failure prediction system has been installed, the field engineer knows that the system has been correctly deployed and they can safely leave the site. This project was a great learning experience because I had never used HTML or JavaScript, but was able to pick them up quickly to produce an effective and flexible UI. ### Founder @ Buchan Enterprises, LLC Jan 2012 – Jan 2016 In 2012 I entered the oil industry at 17 years old. I learned how to generate oil prospects by analyzing 2D seismic data and drawing subsurface structure maps based on archived well logs. I generated a promising oil prospect for a location in Needville, TX, and contacted potential investors in Texas and Oklahoma. I eventually raised $600,000 for the well and drilling began shortly after. Core sampling of potential oil sands present in the borehole revealed oil reserves totaling approximately to 214,000 barrels of oil, with an estimated valued of $21,400,000 at the time of discovery. The profits were reinvested the following year in multiple oil wells in the surrounding area. In 2014, I established Buchan Enterprises, LLC, in the state of North Carolina to serve as a holding corporation for these oil & gas investments, as well as other investments in finance and biotech. ### Geophysics Intern @ Acock Anaqua Operating Co., LP Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Corpus Christi, Texas Area I returned to Acock Anaqua Operating Co. for the summer of 2015.
