# Maximilian Ioffe > Optimizing for complexity and care Location: New York City Metropolitan Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/maximilianioffe A full-stack developer with a passion for problem solving and making decisions based on a deep understanding of their surrounding ecosystems and clients' requirements. Products do not exist in vacuums; a good product is built on an understanding that is iteratively honed through immersion and thorough dogfooding. Leading decisions in hopes to uncover patterns and root issues so that the next generation is designed in-sync with its ecosystem, from architecture to user experience. My time at Bloomberg as a full-stack engineer on a technology infrastructure team was defined by untangling network engineer workflows to build products that integrated with but also simplified these flows. My solutions and decisions were underpinned by extensive research and literature reviews inspired by Bloomberg's high scale environment demanding looking beyond straightforward ideas. Driven by that same requirement, I strove to write clean and highly optimized code utilizing various data structures and algorithms whenever possible. I am ever curious about tech and computer science and strive to stay up-to-date with new developments, mostly in web backend/frontend, databases, and devops. I also cannot relay how excited I am to learn about and work with graphs and networks [in their general sense]. When I'm not thinking about tech, I'm dabbling with financial trading, practicing Muay Thai, working on environmental sustainability passion projects, or playing Valorant and Stardew Valley. Have a great day! ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Flourish Jan 2022 – Present | New York, United States ### Software Engineer @ Bloomberg LP Jan 2018 – Jan 2021 | Greater New York City Area Full-stack developer on the network modeling team; specialized in solving problems at Bloomberg's large network scale by utilizing research methods and algorithms and data structures to achieve performant solutions. • Implemented a contextual firewall policy analysis tool for policy diffing, shadowing, optimization, and testing based on net flow change. Made original enhancements to the firewall decision tree [FDT] data structure to meet the time and space constraints for enterprise policies, some of which were orders of magnitude larger than benchmark policies in reviewed literature. • Lead engineer of a network device configuration and topology modeling platform that stored and serviced Bloomberg's device network. Designed a self-servicing architecture that allowed network engineers to model the network devices within their domains using GraphQL schema definition language, which would be auto-ingested as a GraphQL API backed by a graph database. ### Teaching Assistant @ Hunter College Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | New York, New York, United States Tutored students and graded student exams, tests, homework assignments, and projects for Hunter College's Computer Architecture 1 course. ### DEVELOP Intern @ NASA Langley Research Center Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Hampton, Virginia Team lead of the US Night Skies Urban Development team. • Worked on refinement and validation of an application for estimating skyglow (light pollution) using NASA satellite data. • Developed a new feature for generating hemispherical visualizations of light pollution at a chosen area. • Led team through the fulfillment of all project requirements, designing a poster, video, and writing a scientific paper on our work. • Presented our work at NASA DEVELOP's annual research conference. ### Research Assistant @ Hunter College Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Greater New York City Area • Aided novel research seeking to use the angle and position of missing data points in 3D LIDAR scans to improve the accuracy of CNN-driven vehicle classification algorithms. • Helped with data collection and processing of LiDAR-scanned 3D point clouds of NYC streets. • Labeled and drew bounding boxes for different vehicles in Velodyne 3D point cloud scenes to provide training data for the neural network. ### Sofware Engineering Intern @ Bloomberg LP Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | New York, NY • Designed a command line tool in Python to decommission IP addresses from two internal firewall networks • Integrated the decommission tool into a larger asynchronous workflow engine built with Celery and Django • Wrote unit and integration tests for the decommission as well as other Celery tasks in the workflow engine • Delivered product iteratively and participated in daily standups as part of a team Scrum process ### College Assistant @ CUNY Institute for Sustainable Cities Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Greater New York City Area Used ArcGIS to analyze UN population projections and program a spatial model of population change using Python. ### Instructor @ iD Tech Academy Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | NYU, New York, NY C++ programming instructor at iD Tech Academy for two weeks. Taught a group of five students ages 13-18 C++ and SFML. ### Instructor @ iD Tech Camps Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY Instructor at iD Tech Camps for 6 weeks. Taught mobile game development for iPhone and Android in Stencyl and Unity Game Engine. ### Front End Web Designer @ Sicaffe Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | 964 Lexington Ave, New York, NY I spent two weeks creating a website for a cafe in Lenox Hill, NYC. Using Wordpress as a base I created 5 of the 6 pages in the site by hand using HTML and CSS. The blog page was done through Wordpress. I also did search engine optimization for Bing and Google. I still maintain and update the site monthly. *The website was removed due to the closing of the business in 2016* ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Hunter College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/maxioffe - Portfolio: https://maximilian.coffee - GitHub: https://github.com/mikmaks97 --- Source: https://flows.cv/maximilianioffe JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/maximilianioffe/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
