Currently, I oversee the mobile dev team with two direct reports, while also acting as the tech lead for the retention pod, which includes two backend engineers. My responsibilities cover:
* Growing my direct reports through early delegation and entrusting responsibility, providing a safe space for failure and rapid learning via radical candor.
* Maintaining a team environment aligned with Care/of's core values: Be humble, be honest, be thoughtful, and be different.
* Facilitating project management tasks, such as assessing feasibility and risks, roadmapping, refinement, and sometimes running daily stand-ups.
* Ensuring the team effectively delivers new features and bug fixes, prioritizing UX and customer satisfaction through engineering best practices.
* Assisting in the QA process and helping to prioritize issues.
* Coordinating the mobile team's efforts across overarching projects, ensuring alignment with OKRs.
* Keeping the team focused on achieving business priorities, ensuring that all efforts contribute to our strategic objectives while maintaining a high standard.
* Participating in on-call rotations on both mobile and web platforms.
Achievements:
Recruited a mid-level eng. and facilitated the release of their initial code changes in under a month and their first independently developed feature in less than two months. Guided their progression from a mid-level to a senior level in both mindset and performance through trust, experiential mentoring, and radical candor.
Guided the team in developing and launching a beta of a new sleep tracking app, from concept to TestFlight release, within 3 months. Directly responsible for developing a native module to process HealthKit data. Worked with a data scientist to port a python module for calculating a proprietary sleep score.
Led and contributed to a comprehensive revamp of our app, integrating new functionalities to support routines and reflections, in addition to existing vitamin tracking features.

Continued to lead the mobile engineering team and subsequently becoming tech lead of the Retention pod. Collaborated closely with the Director of Product Management and the UI/UX design team to make strategic technical decisions. Our work centered around developing entirely new features using a rapid iteration, OKR-driven development approach.
* Demonstrated project management capabilities, coordinating effectively across tasks and teams.
* Successfully delivered new features and addressed bugs within strict deadlines.
* Launched new app versions tailored to specific user groups and conversion paths.
* Directed the mobile team's transition to an updated subscription model and integration with new internal APIs, ensuring thorough stakeholder coordination and comprehensive quality assurance processes.
* Implemented several A/B tests to refine user experience and enhance app functionality.
* Resolved challenging performance issues that were difficult to pinpoint, which were ultimately traced back to third-party libraries, and executed a hard rollback of React Native upgrades.
* Actively participated in on-call rotations, triaging incidents across both mobile and web platforms.

Shifted focus to Care/of's main subscriber app, aiming to enhance its stability, quality, and user retention through the introduction of habit-building and self-reflection features.
* Addressed and resolved critical bugs and crashes, enhancing app performance.
* Updated to the latest frameworks and dependencies, conducted extensive code refactoring.
* Recruited a Senior Software Engineer and served as the technical lead, assisting in managing project tasks such as feasibility studies, task refinement, roadmap planning, and progress tracking, with direct reporting to the CTO and the Director or Product Management.
* Led the development and launch of the app on Android.
* Implemented end-to-end (e2e) testing using Detox.

Joining Care/of through LabLyfe's acquisition, a startup I co-founded, led to the creation of a Digital Research pod aimed at innovation. Our mission was to enhance our self-experimentation mobile platform to uncover insights on user behaviors and needs within the digital wellness sector. As the pod's lead engineer, I collaborated closely with the head of innovation (my former co-founder), UX designers, and a backend engineer, fulfilling the role of a technical project manager.
Our technology stack included React Native (iOS), Cloud Firestore, other Firebase products, and Airtable for content management.
Leveraging insights from LabLyfe, our research pivoted towards habit formation and self-reflections. We launched a new iOS app, "Routines by Care/of," right on the onset of the pandemic when interest in daily routines and habit tracking surged during lockdown, contributing to the app's immediate success. The tech stack was enhanced with cloud services such as Compute Engine, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions from Google Cloud Platform to generate weekly insights and recommendations, in addition to managing push notifications.
As of April 2024, Routines by Care/of is rated 4.8 stars with over 4.6k ratings.
