The Tseng Lab focuses on studying aortic aneurysms, transcatheter aortic valve replacements, and surgical aortic valve replacements through cardiac biomechanics. Although the most common practice for detecting when a patient is in need of surgery to prevent an aneurysm is through following the guideline of a specified diameter of the aorta, this value often falls short when predicting an aneurysm. Thus, the Tseng Lab focuses on creating biomechanical models and machine learning to predict the amount of stress on the aortic wall based upon the 3D geometry and wall thickness of a patient's aorta.
