# Megan McDevitt > Software Engineer at Blend Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/meganmcdevitt Whether I’m developing my bass technique or JavaScript skills, I’m always striving to improve. In my 10-year career as a musician and teacher, I developed the arts of attention to detail, long-term planning, and discipline through self-awareness, creativity, and curiosity. Here are a few great reasons to hire a musician as a software developer: 1. We know how to break down a long project into small chunks and work diligently on them one at a time. 2. There are major similarities in the structural understanding of intangibles between music and programming, including non-verbal language-learning. 3. We take ownership over our projects and follow through at as high a level as possible - it is nearly impossible to phone-in a featured performance. 4. We know how to work creatively and collaborate with other people. 5. We have great stories (ask me about being on Keeping Up with the Kardashians!) ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Blend Jan 2021 – Present | Remote ### Software Engineer Apprentice @ Blend Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 ### Performer @ Megan McDevitt, Professional Musician Jan 2011 – Jan 2021 | Buffalo, Ann Arbor, and San Francisco Bay Area Prepare, rehearse, and perform in many orchestras, chamber groups, new music ensembles, and solo recitals, most recently with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. ### Double Bass Instructor @ Megan McDevitt, Professional Musician Jan 2011 – Jan 2021 | Buffalo, Ann Arbor, and San Francisco Bay Area Planned curriculum, prepared performances, and regularly maintained double bass studios of 4-15 students of middle school and high school age, providing mentorship and new skills, and clear communication with parents.
