# Meng-Ting (Martin) Chiang > Senior Software Engineer at Axon Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/mengting Full stack software engineer. Passionate about modern distributed system to build scalable, performant, and interactive applications. These are some technologies I am hyper excited about - React, GraphQL and gRPC. Proficient in Javascript, Typescript, Golang, Python, AWS and relational databases. Working knowledge on Docker, CI/CD, and Kubernetes. Recent talks include 'AWS Lambda & EC2', and 'Implementing D3 with React' at SingleSprouts sponsored events. Let's also talk about HIIT training/kettlebell/intermittent fasting and how we can use tech to promote these awesome fitness concepts :) ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Axon Jan 2024 – Present • Entity Graph squad Tech Lead (2025-present) • Building Axon Record - record management system for public safety ### Software Engineer @ Axon Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 • Led various flagship features such as Permits, Photo Lineup & Master Charge Tool • Main Tech stack: React / Typescript / GraphQL / Golang / gRPC / mySQL / python ### Software Engineer @ Axios Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 • Led the front end team to improve the app's initial loading time from 2 second to less than 0.5 second; Consolidated tech debts and downsized the frontend codebase by 1/3 of its original bundle size. • Built a React component library with Storybook from scratch, allowing components being shared across different teams and projects. Designed Jest, Enzyme and Puppeteer frameworks to formulate automated tests with Test Driven Development principles. • Developed front end in Typescript to ensure React/prosemirror’s integration and handle conflicts on state management/DOM manipulations between these two popular libraries. • Introduced React Context API for state management, replaced polling with Websocket. Employed custom Webpack/Typescript configuration to exercise granular control over the bundling of the frontend codebase. • Other contributions include shipping directory sync feature, refactoring Prosemirror schema, and implementing server-side rendering. ### Software Engineer @ lucidQL Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | New York City Metropolitan Area • Implemented React/D3 to build a developer tool that introspects and visualizes PostgreSQL databases and outputs schemas ready to be inserted into GraphQL APIs, allowing users to perform drag-and-drop actions and receiving real-time schema updates, and helping organizations upgrade legacy RESTful APIs to use more cutting-edge and performant patterns. • Constructed Express server in a combination of object-oriented programming and functional patterns to modularize the app’s back-end structure, which introspects relations in Postgres databases in one query then outputs working schema for GraphQL APIs. • Leveraged Node’s file structure module and Express’s download method to let users conveniently save app output as JavaScript files, encouraging modularity while providing a way for users to easily implement schemas and resolvers in their own projects. • Utilized AWS for deployment by configuring Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) server with Dockerized images to ensure future scalability. ### Accio-it @ Open Source Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | New York, New York, United States • Leveraged PostgreSQL to create a relational database in order to reduce the amount of redundant entries while ensuring ACID compliance. • Configured Webpack build tool to leverage the dev server and bundled modules into a core file with minification and uglification features improving app performance times. Used a proxy to load content from a different port in order to handle cross-origin HTTP requests. • Established Node.js/Express server to efficiently handle HTTP/API requests to myriad endpoints by engaging the middleware design pattern, writing routers and controllers to modularize backend requests with a discernible chain of responsibility. ### Social Scrapbook @ Open Source Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | New York, New York, United States • Employed React context API Hooks to design a centralized event-driven state management system that follows a predictable and unidirectional data flow, minimizing excessive prop-drilling and efficiently rendering applications based on local state changes. • Utilized Dotenv to load environmental variables from .env files to conceal API keys, DB URIs, and client info from Google OAuth. • Implemented Websocket to establish user-to-user direct messaging feature. Leveraged Axios and Cors to improve communication between client and server. Used JWT and js-cookie to securely exchange data, tokenizing user authentication, and persisting user sessions. • Leveraged Google OAuth and calendar API to provide users with reliable authentication and the convenience of one-click event adding. ### Tindog @ Open Source Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | New York, New York, United States • Integrated Redux to centralize application state to reduce cognitive overhead, optimize code generation and render content based on users’ actions. Also utilized React Router to achieve a SPA, reducing server calls and boosting application speed through client-side rendering. • Leveraged SCSS to create consistent style and responsive UI that shared the same color theme. Designed animated components (such as sticky nav-bar, input fields and buttons) that improved compiling and rendering times by avoiding usage of Bootstrap or Material UI. • Implemented Google’s Firebase with Express server to handle OAuth and achieve faster backend construction. • Prototyped a NoSQL database to store unrelated data, creating organization and security using schemas to enforce data type declarations. ### Exercise Physiologist @ Life Time Inc. Jan 2017 – Jan 2020 | Greater New York City Area • Most productive team member(in sales and service) in company's Manhattan location for 3 consecutive years (2017-2019). • Analyzing clients’ health conditions by performing advanced health assessments such as stress tests, cardiovascular functions, and lab tests. • Led weekly internal educational workshops and evaluated personal trainers in the club, as well as developing courses for members in a range of fitness levels to improve strength, flexibility, endurance and circulatory functioning. • Became fully-scheduled (over 35 sessions/week) within 2 weeks of employment. Generated over $120,000 of revenue for the club in the first 6 month of employment, ranked number 1 in average revenue in the club. ## Education ### Master’s Degree in Physiology Columbia University ### Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemical Technology National Taiwan University ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/mengting-chiang --- Source: https://flows.cv/mengting JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/mengting/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
