At Swarm, I am a Senior Software Engineer as well as an Engineering Team Lead. As a Senior Software Engineer, I have been entrusted as a technical leader at some of the largest media publishers in the U.S.. I've worked on high-capacity engineering teams with the clients' engineers as well as other engineers at Swarm to build large-scale distributed applications and high-visibility products. The front-end website uses React, CSS-in-JS (Styled Components), and Webpack. The back-end services were written in Node/TypeScript. Stripe payment processing was integrated to manage subscriptions for customers. Services were containerized using their own Docker images and hosted using Google App Engine on the Google Cloud Platform. AES-256 encryption keys provided by Google Key Management Service are used to securely encrypt/decrypt all sensitive user information. All data was stored in Google Cloud Firestore (formerly Google Datastore), while some necessary information is replicated into Elasticsearch for indexing and searching. A separate Redis server is used for light caching and other temporary stateful functionality. The WebExtension that runs in the browsers also uses Webpack and has its own front-end using React and Styled Components. It communicates with the API servers and also takes advantage of real-time messaging using PubNub, to ensure that local data is always synced. A large part of this journey required me to write a public man-in-the-middle (MITM) proxy used to decrypt requests, inject/modify certain headers or body information, and reissue the request to the original recipient. ### Full Stack Android Developer @ DISTRODATA LLC Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Destin, Florida, United States I created an in-house, native Android application for product delivery drivers to be able to track markets, routes, and drops in real-time in the most efficient and performant ways possible. This included designing and implementing fast, scalable back-end services and APIs using Google SQL (MySQL), Redis, Node.js, and Docker to be managed using Google App Engine. This is an ongoing project that involves constant feature updates, performance optimizations, and general maintenance. I was the sole developer for this project. I no longer work for DistroData full-time due to sufficient completion of the project, but I am regularly contracted for updates and fixes as they are using this software for daily operations. ### Lead Software Architect @ Destin Enterprise Systems Jan 2014 – Jan 2019 | Destin, Florida, United States Designing, developing, and maintaining fast, modern, large-scale enterprise software for private national usage. Coordinating and communicating with UI/UX designers for assets, clients for project details and scope, and other front-end and back-end developers. This involved managing multiple clusters and services running on both Amazon AWS and Google Cloud. Stacks used range from PHP/MySQL to NodeJS/NoSQL solutions. Some proprietary internal tools were written in lower-level languages such as Go or C++. ### Full Stack Android Developer @ Think, LLC Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | Destin, Florida, United States Created a public location-based Android application and web control panel for the local restaurant coupon magazine "TheMenuMag" in Destin, FL from the ground up. This included designing the back-end services and APIs, laying out and adding functionality to the native Android app, and hooking up the endpoints. I also separately created the back-bone CMS admin panel for the management to edit data on the app in real-time. This was an on-going project which included several version iterations and rapid new features. I was the only developer for this project. ### Pre-Wire / AV Technician @ Innovative Sight & Sound Jan 2012 – Jan 2012 | Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, United States I was part of a small team that did rough-ins and pre-wires on many construction sites that would later turn into finished buildings with expert AV/IT installations done by other teams. Occasionally, I would assist with AV installations or service calls from clients with finished setups. ### Full Stack Web Developer / IT @ Control Systems Research Jan 2011 – Jan 2011 | Valparaiso, Florida, United States I refactored and optimized their current internal human resources site which managed job applications. The site used jQuery on the front-end and PHP as a back-end. I also helped provide in-office and remote IT support for the FAA and other government clients. ## Education ### Business Administration University of Central Florida Jan 2015 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/micaww - Website: https://lowkeydev.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/micahallen JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/micahallen/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
