# Monica Metzger > Staff Software Engineer at Telos Health Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/monicametzger Presented at the United Nations during the 68th and 70th sessions of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), sharing work on expanding access to education in underserved communities. Over the past year, I’ve been working with a team of engineers to develop a “Digital Classroom in a Single Device” - a portable educational server designed to operate without internet or power infrastructure, enabling access to learning in even the most remote environments. This work is part of a broader effort to expand access to education through scalable, remote technology, in partnership with organizations like Blueprint at UC Berkeley. Deployment in Uganda is planned for July 2026. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ Telos Health Jan 2025 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area · Lead engineer for multiple C++/Qt/QML applications supporting a robotic thrombectomy medical system. · Serves as Scrum Master for the Applications group, driving sprint planning, bug triage, backlog management and delivery timelines. · Provides technical leadership and architectural guidance, supporting software engineers, frontend developers and interns through hands-on technical assistance, priority setting, task planning and cross-team alignment. · Designs and maintains a modular, scalable UI framework with dynamic page loading, shared components and consistent behavior across all applications. · Developed a deep understanding of fluidics and robotic subsystems, enabling the design of application workflows driven by real-time status updates, safety guards and coordinated command events between the applications and the system controller. · Implements robust C++ data models and exposes them to QML through type registration, enabling clean model-view separation and dynamic UI behavior. · Develops controller patterns in C++ that cleanly separate logic from the QML layer, improving maintainability and clarity throughout the application stack. · Integrates DDS (RTI Connext) for real-time communication with robotic subsystems, including workflow state updates, device status and operational telemetry. · Implements advanced focus and interaction logic using state machines to support handlebar buttons and touchscreen navigation. · Builds procedural workflows that guide physicians and technicians through robot setup, intraoperative steps, postoperative steps and system interactions. · Performs weekly full system lab testing on robotic system - hardware, controllers, sensors, fluidics and subsystems - to validate end-to-end workflow behavior and real-time system response. ### Sr. Software Engineer @ Telos Health Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 ### Sr. Software Engineer @ General Dynamics Mission Systems Jan 2017 – Jan 2022 • Designed, developed and unit-tested critical components of the program software implementation to include integration with other sub-components to provide on demand satellite based networking connections. • Lead full stack developer for command and control subsystem components for entire software defined radio. • Utilized model-based design to architect, design, document, and build the solution. • Utilized the model to clarify software and hardware interactions. • Provided support to other software components of the system to identify bug fixes and add additional functionality. • Implemented secure coding practices based on SEI CERT compliant C and C++ coding standards and utilizing code analysis tools and code reviews. • Created and presented software design review and functional demonstration content to the customer to ensure understanding and endorsement for key program milestones. • Supported multiple programs utilizing different technologies. • Participated with the System Integration & Test team in the development and execution of a highly successful customer demonstration. • Designed and developed the interconnection of a back-end application in C++ to a web application with remote procedure calls and streaming capabilities for real-time customer visibility into a mission system supporting software defined radio. • Defined Protocol Buffer messages and designed and developed gRPC stream to send messages between server and web application. • Assisted GDMS Talent Attraction and Capture team with improvements of the engineering talent acquisition process. ### Full Stack Developer @ SweetWater Health Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 • Developed iOS application which graphically displays and analyzes in real-time, database user activity and other user metrics. • Developed PHP scripts to customize mailing list via a web based link on corporate URL. • Responsible for developing data visualizations of 6 years’ worth of iOS application sessions ### Software Engineer @ Sophos Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 • Created Business Intelligence(BI) Dashboard to display client usage and data. • Responsible for developing data visualizations from raw data to maximize analysis of data. • Created responsive webpage to display BI Dashboard. • Presented BI Dashboard to executives to show comprehensive visualizations. ### Software Developer @ SweetWater Health Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 • White labeled iOS application to customize product with special features and logos for client – 3,000 apps sold to date. • Developed PHP script to fetch data from the server database to download to an Android app. • Designed GUI for iPhone Application on Xcode. • Created multiple website concept designs using Microsoft PowerPoint for a more effective user interface. ## Education ### Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science and Engineering Santa Clara University ### Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science University of San Francisco ### Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communication Santa Clara University ## Contact & Social -
