# Murali Mandayam > Principal Engineer Location: Fremont, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/muralimandayam I am a Machine learning (ML), Artificial intelligence (AI) professional with Management experience leading a cross-functional Professional Services team. Experience in Deep Learning, Data Science, Business Analytics, Program Management, and Software Development. Currently developing an ML forecasting and prediction model for a healthcare problem. Back in my Computer Science grad school, I studied a textbook titled “Algorithms + Data Structure = Programs”. The title was intriguing, but it is very true and relevant in my job even today. A similar phrase that is relevant today is “Data + Insights = Decisions”. When one is focused on delivering, they overlook the value they create. My journey with data was exactly that. I was swimming in data all along and helping senior management make decisions. But did not realize the power of the data. After 15+ years in setting up offshore development centers, leading development, professional services, and customer success teams, an unforeseen change in corporate strategy relocated my job from Silicon Valley to Boston. This made me take a step back and gave me time to pause and rethink my own career path and reshape it with – what else? - a focus on algorithms + data. I spent the next 8 months with Thinkful (www.thinkful.com) mastering my Python, and brushing up on SQL, data science and data engineering skills. The course helped me land a job in a major healthcare company that has several years’ worth of valuable data. Much as I was unhappy about the relocation of my job, it turned out to be truly a blessing in disguise! I can take a business problem, analyze the available data, engineer the data, transform it, feed it to a machine learning model and, predict outcomes based on the trained models. Using Python, I have done exploratory data analysis, imputed missing data, built regression and classification models, and models based on neural network such as BiLSTM, GRU, and others using libraries such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras, and scikit. I can help you make sense of the data you have that can help you to make better business decisions! https://github.com/mu-mandayam/DataScience/tree/master/Stock_Price_Forecast https://github.com/mu-mandayam/DataScience/tree/master/Safe_Driver_Prediction murali.mandayam@gmail.com 408-933-8513 ## Work Experience ### Principal Engineer, Applications @ Kaiser Permanente Jan 2019 – Present | Berkeley, CA Principal Engineer in the Analytics & Reporting team at the Northern California Regional Labs, enabling them to move away from spreadsheet-based analytics to a more scalable and sustainable web-based application using .NET, MS-SQL, AI/ML models, and Tableau-based dashboards for executives. I work with a team of Tableau, MS-SQL, Oracle, and .NET developers in designing, architecting, and developing AI/ML solutions; and also managing a team of 8 people who develop analytical dashboards with a .NET web front-end, Tableau-based drill-down reports, with data extracted and engineered from various lab applications that are in MS-SQL, Oracle, a Hadoop cluster,s Flat files, and other data sources. I create visual and written specifications by analyzing various sources of data and spot trends among the data creating a descriptive and diagnostic narrative for executives. I also develop Python-based AI/ML models using Prophet, ARIMA/SARIMAX, Linear Regression, and other CNN and RNN-based algorithms. Interact with executives by consulting with them to collect requirements, take post-delivery feedback, and improvise dashboard development. ### Head of US Operations @ Claysol Media Labs Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Fremont, California, United States Engineering Services for Automotive Infotainment and Dashboard Clusters, IoT and Medical devices, and OTT industry. Generated profitable revenue representing approximately 10% of Claysol’srevenue having built the customers from the ground up, and by developing business strategy and sales roadmap targeting start-ups and small-to-medium size companies that are looking for a cost-effective offshore model. Negotiated numerous master services agreements and statements of work. Analyze staff capability and capacity models by collaborating across a matrix organization and PMO in India to deliver successful customer engagements. ### Data Scientist @ Thinkful Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area Safe Driver Prediction: https://github.com/mu-mandayam/DataScience/tree/master/Safe_Driver_Prediction Automobile drivers were classified as safe(1) or unsafe(0) using several binary classification models with Gradient Boosting giving the best performance overall with superior Precision-Recall scores. Models used were Decision-Tree, SVM, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), Gradient Boosting and XGBoost with EDA, feature engineering, balancing datasets along with k-fold cross-validation. Stock Price Forecasting: https://github.com/mu-mandayam/DataScience/tree/master/Stock_Price_Forecast Traditional (S)ARIMA methods were used on a time series data to establish a baseline. Statsmodel was used to generate linear predictions. Within (S)ARIMA a thorough grid search was performed and the best p, d and q values were established with ARIMA and Simple Moving Average. Also performed Linear Regression, Random Forest and LSTM models. LSTM had the best performance overall with the lowest RMSE number. ### Director @ The Qt Company Jan 2011 – Jan 2017 | Santa Clara, CA Cross-platform application development framework for desktop, mobile, and IoT devices. Successfully created professional services group from scratch for global Finnish software company (that acquired Nokia’s Qt product in 2011). Achieved significant revenue growth in the first year itself by increasing billing capacity and publishing a sales handbook that laid down standard operating procedures for the sales team to sell services; developed a scalable but flexible, fixed price, services products and pricing rubric that dramatically reduced sales cycles and enhanced company revenue. Expanded global services team in the US, EMEA, and China internally through a matrix organization, and externally with services partners; managed services lifecycle including pre-sales, developing SOWs, master services agreement, project deliverables, and customer satisfaction; managed the P&L for the services group and built internal relationships across teams including R & D, Sales, Product Management, and Executives. ### Director of Professional Services (Enterprise Solutions & Qt Frameworks Group) @ Nokia Jan 2004 – Jan 2011 | Redwood City, CA A world leader in mobile devices, network infrastructure, and location-based technologies. Led and managed global professional services teams in US, Europe, Japan, and Korea for Nokia’s Data Synchronization and Qt products. Complemented COO and forged development and implementation of data synchronization applications including Mobile Suite (SaaS) application and SyncML server; Won an award by reaching the semi-final round of Nokia’s leadership program, as one among 12 participants out of a pool of 120 aspirants; managed the US and Romanian cross-functional teams, administering product planning, implementation, training, and service support for enterprise customers including Sprint, Verizon, Google, Yahoo!, Siebel, and Microsoft. Performed as subject matter expert (SME) during pre-sales engagements with professional staff including engineering VPs and lead architects, planning projects and field investigations to enhance accounts acquisition, valued at $200K to $1M. ## Education ### Masters in Computer Science Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani ### Data Scientist Thinkful ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/mmandayam - Portfolio: http://www.qt.io - Portfolio: http://www.scrumalliance.org/ - Portfolio: http://www.psvillage.com/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/muralimandayam JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/muralimandayam/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-12
