# Myles O'Neill > Senior Design Manager Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/mylesoneill I am a design manager with a background in machine learning, computer science, and genetics. I moved to San Francisco to be at the heart of the technological revolutions changing our world. I want to work where cutting edge technology is transformed into reality. I have 10 years of experience working on digital product design for a diverse range of applications. For the last 9 years I have worked as the lead designer at Kaggle (www.kaggle.com), a platform focussed on educating and empowering the next generation of data scientists. I have worked in a hybrid design/PM capacity on a large number of projects at Kaggle including building: a cloud based code editor, a platform for public datasets, a gamified "progression system", a community forum platform and moderation system, and recently our new simulation 'game' competitions. When Kaggle was acquired by Google I had the opportunity to grow the design team, creating processes for hiring, onboarding, and working as a team. I've been a manager for 7 years now, managing a team of 5 designers. I've implemented and iterated on team processes such as design reviews, design work allocation/prioritization, developing a large scale visual design system, and improving our working patterns with our growing engineering and product teams. I love helping designers grow in their careers and supporting them through mentoring. I also volunteer my time as a UX mentor on uxcoffeehours.com and adplist.org . I have a generalist skill set and have passionately leveraged these skills on a number of entrepreneurial ventures, community websites, and student organizations. Some examples of personal projects I've worked on include Uncanny Valley (2019, a cyberpunk themed event/coworking space), Literai (2016, tutorials for ai text generation), and Dragon Racer (2015, a kickstarted board game project now available in stores worldwide). Over the past 6 years I've managed a team of 5 designers working to cover all of the product and design needs across Kaggle. I developed systems for hiring and onboarding new designers, researchers, and UX engineers onto the team. To scale the team I also worked on building new processes for design review, work allocation/prioritization, involvement of design in strategic planning, cross-team workflow improvements, design mentorship, and the development of a new visual design framework. The team has been very successful at creating excellent designs on tight timelines and has been a major factor in the success of the company. ### Product Designer @ Kaggle Jan 2015 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area ► Roles: UX Design | UI Design | Product Management Kaggle is the home of data science, a place where more than 12 million data scientists come to learn, conduct analysis, collaborate, show off their work, and establish credibility. I worked as Kaggle's sole designer prior to its acquisition by Google in early 2017 and now lead it's design team of 6. As the lead designer at Kaggle I've designed and been involved in consistent iteration on a number of its key platforms including its online code editor (notebooks), public datasets, discussion forums, Kaggle's gamified progression system, and (most recently) simulation competitions. During my time at Kaggle we've seen amazing traction and growth on all of these products and now see more than 400k active monthly users across the site. ### Product Designer @ Cambia Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | Brisbane, Australia ► Roles: UX Design | User Engagement | Testing I returned to Cambia to continue the work I began on the Lens Project during my employment with NICTA in 2013. Cambia is a small organization with a long history of innovation and impact in the NGO sector. As a UX Designer on a small team I had a wide range of roles and projects, from testing to managing user feedback. I also worked on improving the accessibility of the Lens' advanced features by developing user stories, writing tutorials, and contributing to design discussions. ### Product Manager @ IBM Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Canberra, Australia ► Roles: Product Management | Business Analysis | UX Design IBM Global Business Services provides IT consulting and solutions to enterprise projects around the world. At IBM I worked as a business analyst (Product Manager track) on web-based software solutions for the Australian Government. I worked in a team to design, develop, and deliver 2 major updates to custom enterprise software. I also conducted core business analysis and user research for a multi-million dollar system automation project. My team was awarded the highest client satisfaction score in the Asia-Pacific Region for Q2 2014. ### Product Designer @ NICTA Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | Canberra, Australia ► Roles: UX Design | Data Analysis | Testing I joined NICTA to work with the Cambia team on "The Lens" (lens.org), a free web-based tool for patent landscaping. I was involved in a number of different roles working on bioinformatic projects, scientific data analysis, developing marketing plans, and contributing to design discussions. I also tackled user engagement, with a focus on improving user retention. I took the initiative to establish systems for properly handling feedback and testing as well as developing a new support center for the site. ### Game Designer @ Thylacine Games Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | Canberra, Australia ► Roles: Board Game Design | Business Planning | Marketing Thylacine Games is a small board game design and production company that I founded in 2012. After two years of development we ran a Kickstarter campaign to produce the game and raised $23,000 from 501 backers. Dragon Racer has been in retail stores around the world since early 2016. Dragon Racer has an average rating of 7/10 on Board Game Geek. ### Research Assistant @ Australian National University Jan 2011 – Jan 2013 | Canberra, Australia ► Roles: Molecular Biology | Data Analysis | Scientific Writing The Maleszka lab at ANU uses the honey bee as a model for studying the emerging field of epigenetics and in particular, DNA methylation. My role as research assistant was a continuation of previous work I did with the lab as part of my honours thesis. I worked in both wet and dry labs, designing and conducting molecular biology experiments as well as writing python scripts to analyze epigenomic sequencing data. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours) in Genetics & Computer Science The Australian National University Jan 2009 – Jan 2012 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/mylesoneill - Portfolio: http://aboutmyles.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/mylesoneill JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/mylesoneill/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-25
