I am a software engineer with nearly 10 years of experience working in small to midsize companies. I have worked in all layers of the stack, but specialize in writing reliable, robust, performant back-end systems.

My favorite language is Go, but I have significant professional experience with TypeScript, Python, Ruby, and C# as well. I learned C and Java in undergrad, and dabble in Rust in my spare time. I have an iOS app on the App Store that was written in Swift.

I have deep knowledge of Postgres, and am often called on to design database schemas for performance-critical applications, interpret query plans, and optimize slow queries. I have also worked extensively with Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Redis.

On the infra side of things, I have considerable experience with Docker and docker-compose. I have instrumented services to ship metrics to Prometheus, and have created dashboards in Grafana and DataDog for monitoring. I have experience deploying code to production with Terraform and AWS (particularly with Amazon's Elastic Container Service), and have spent considerable time working in a Kubernetes-based environment, using Helm and similar tools.

I am also no stranger to the front-end, having built complex interactive interfaces using TypeScript, React, Redux, and Tailwind CSS. CSS is not necessarily my strong suit, but I can hold my own and deliver in a pinch. I also have some experience working on an Electron app.

I have led teams, designed systems, taught classes, mentored other engineers, interviewed candidates, and been responsible for system architecture at a company that grew from 30 to 300 employees during my time there. I prefer to work in companies with a clear vision/mission and a highly collaborative and supportive team culture. I think most of my colleagues would probably say that I'm a extremely fun and friendly person to work with.
