I am a software developer based in Nashville, TN. I have extensive experience with the C#, JavaScript and TypeScript languages, the Node and .NET frameworks, Angular and React, and the Azure cloud ecosystem. My strength is developing scalable, maintainable solutions to complex problems using tried and tested software design patterns and programming principles. I am always trying to widen my understanding of technology by trying different languages, frameworks, and tools.

I began programming in college, when I chose to take an intro course as an elective and learned the basics of C++. Further investigation on my own led me to Linux, and trying different distros and writing simple programs using C or Python became my hobby.

After I graduated with a math degree, it seemed logical to try software engineering and turn my hobby into a career and I was fortunate enough to find a job at Greenway Health in Carrollton, Georgia. There I worked on an EMR system that was built on a mix of classic ASP with VB 6 and newer code written in C# and VB.NET. Along with learning more about those languages, I was also introduced to the software development lifecycle and how real development teams cooperate to build large applications.

Greenway closed their office in Carrollton after some time and looking for the next step in my career led me to Franklin, Tennessee where I worked at eviCore healthcare. There was a great team of knowledgeable engineers there from whom I learned a lot about software design and how aligning the architecture of a solution with the problem space leads to ease of initial development and subsequent maintenance. This was a major step forward for me as I learned the practical difference between being able to build something that worked and something that worked in the simplest possible way.

I have since done a spell as an independent contractor and am now working as a senior engineer at Contessa Health, where I continue to hone my skills at finding elegant designs for software and sharing ideas with a team as we work with the latest technologies to meet interesting business challenges with a small and creative group of engineers.

Developer on a web-based Electronic Health Records (EHR) product built on a Microsoft stack.

    * Worked with Classic ASP and ASP.NET, VBScript/Javascript, C#, and SQL Server.

    * Refactored poorly-designed legacy code written in VBScript to use a normalized database schema, ASP.NET web services and a JavaScript templating library (Handlebars.js) to improve maintainability and efficiency

    * Used JQuery extensively to perform AJAX requests, apply styling to existing web pages, and add dynamic markup to the DOM

    * Created SQL Server database objects such as tables, functions, stored procedures, views and jobs as necessary.

    * Unit tested code using MSTest for .Net code and Jasmine for JavaScript code

    * Worked on a responsive single-page application built with Knockout.js

    * Wrote internal utilities using WinForms which performed tasks such as generating libraries of document templates and exporting data to PDF forms for clients
