# Navid Poulad > Product Design Leader Location: San Jose, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/navidpoulad My specialty is MR, AR, and cost-sensitive product development. Here are some things I can do very well: consumer electronics product development, mechanical architecture, prototyping, optomechanical system design, 3D modeling and 2D drawing (expert-level Creo, basic SolidWorks, basic Keyshot), Design For Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA). I am also highly skilled in program management and leading projects, while nurturing a culture of innovation, growth, and empathy. ## Work Experience ### Sr. Manager, Product Design @ Sony Interactive Entertainment Jan 2026 – Present | San Mateo, CA Building more cool things at Sony PlayStation ### Staff Product Design Engineer @ Sony Interactive Entertainment Jan 2025 – Jan 2026 | San Mateo, CA Shipped two PlayStation products: the Pulse Elevate planar magnetic speakers and the FlexStrike arcade-style wireless game controller ### Co-founder & CTO @ Noredo Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | San Jose, California, United States As a bootstrapped business, built a design presentation tool for product creators in 8 weeks and met with several world class Product Design teams in the Bay area to refine the concept. After three months, decided that the problem space was low value and pivoted to AI Hardware for in-person businesses. In the four months that followed, raised an Angel round and developed a new product concept along with the experience flow and landed a pilot with the Sacramento State Audiology Clinic. However, low customer momentum finally led to us wrapping up the venture in February. ### Director Of Mechanical Engineering @ Microsoft Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 | Mountain View, California, United States Led the Product Design team for IVAS 1.2, the next generation of ruggedized HoloLens products. ### Principal Mechanical Design Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Mountain View, California, United States Led the mechanical architecture definition of a glasses-form-factor HoloLens product and built Human Factors prototypes, iterating with the Industrial Design team to improve the wear comfort. Carried the project from concept ideation through to the architecture review milestone, at which point the project was cancelled due to lack of funding for the necessary technology investments. ### Senior Mechanical Design Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2017 – Jan 2020 | Mountain View, CA Designed the visor assembly, IMU, and active display alignment system for HoloLens 2. Also led the sensors and display integration for the Defense Sector Solutions branch of HoloLens. ### Mechanical Design Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Mountain View, California Designed the display engine, inertial sensor, and active display alignment systems of a HoloLens product that did not ship externally. ### Product Design Engineer @ Amazon Lab126 Jan 2011 – Jan 2015 | Cupertino, California First two years: conceptual development, prototyping, and mechatronic design of consumer-focused products, employing cutting-edge technologies and academic research to realize and ultimately commercialize visionary ideas. Work in this area gave birth to products such as Echo, FireTV, and more to come! Latter two years: design, development, manufacturing and sustaining of Amazon FireTV consumer product line, consisting of the 4K media streaming box and remote controls. I successfully designed and shipped Amazon FireTV, meeting stringent reliability requirements while keeping the product several dollars below the cost target. I designed every single mechanical component in collaboration with one colleague from concept definition to sustaining. Guiding and troubleshooting the manufacturing processes played a vital role in the successful completion of the project in a rapid 9-month development cycle. ### Mechanical Engineering Co-op @ DALSA Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 Design and development of mechanical manufacturing fixtures and industrial camera parts in AutoDesk Inventor, in addition to manufacturing drawings with GD&T and overseeing the fabrication process. ### BB HW Verification Engineering Co-op @ Research In Motion Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 Functional and parametric verification of the digital baseband interface between the processor and the peripherals of the BlackBerry platform. ### Conceptual Product Designer (Co-op) @ Research In Motion Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 Research and investigation of new technologies to be implemented in the future generation of BlackBerry devices, as well as the design of thin-walled plastic parts for conceptual BlackBerry smartphones in Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0 ### R&D Engineering Co-op @ Ontario Die International Jan 2008 – Jan 2008 Making mechanical design improvement the accuracy and reliability of the patented invention of ODI - best described as an automatic steel die bending machine. Conducting performance tests and analyzing the data to identify shortcomings in the design and to develop solutions to address those issues. ## Education ### B.A.Sc with Distinction in Honours Mechatronics Engineering University of Waterloo ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/npoulad --- Source: https://flows.cv/navidpoulad JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/navidpoulad/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
