# Neil Lugovoy > Software Engineer Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/neillugovoy ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Sigma Computing Jan 2020 – Jan 2024 My first hackathon project, Undelete, won the Founder's Choice Award. My second hackathon project, Time Machine, won the Best Coding Project Award. I worked on Live Editing, Python in Sigma, optimizing MySQL, workbooks, controls, filters, version history, and load testing. I contributed to work that resulted in 3 patent applications. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Sigma Computing Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco, California, United States I built the commenting feature end to end (MySQL, node.JS, GraphQL, React, Typescript) by collaborating with designers, frontend and backend engineers. This feature allows users to comment on documents, tag other users, and receive notifications when tagged. I won best intern project. ### Undergraduate Researcher @ Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | Berkeley, CA I worked on research combining mathematical techniques for safety analysis of dynamical systems with machine learning. I published a paper at ICRA 2019 and wrote all the code for that paper using Python, TensorFlow, NumPy, Pandas and Ray. As of writing the paper has more than 80 citations. ### Software Engineering Intern @ PayPal Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | San Jose, CA I built the backend for an app in Node JS, Java, and SQL to reduce the time to onboard merchants from 3 weeks to minutes. My hackathon project using computer vision placed 2nd in the US and 4th globally in the Payments hackathon out of more than 130 teams of full time engineers. ### Senior Mentor @ Computer Science Mentors Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Berkeley, CA I taught weekly sections for Data Structures and Discrete Math & Probability. These are free 2 hour sessions that 6 students can attend for extra support and academic units, through the semester. My next semester I was selected to become a Senior Mentor to advise other Junior Mentors and contribute to Discrete Math & Probability content. ### Data Structures Tutor @ UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS) Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Berkeley, CA I taught a 3 hour section 4 days per week with a TA to explain data structure concepts and help students with debugging in Java. Additionally as part of an education course, I offered free tutoring to 4 students one-on-one for at least an hour each every week for the intro computer science classes CS 61A (Python, SQL, Lisp) and CS 61B (Data Structures). I received a 4.93/5 rating from my students. ### Undergraduate Researcher @ Berkeley Plasma Physics Research Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Berkeley, Ca I built circuits, machined parts from aluminum on a lathe, collected experimental data and performed data analysis in R. I improved the data analysis by automating model parameter choice such that no human intervention was required. ### Research Intern @ Santa Clara University School of Engineering Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Santa Clara, CA I programmed an Intel Edison in JavaScript for use as a mobile air-quality monitor by interfacing with AWS IoT. Collected data could be stored in AWS S3 and then emailed to users. ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Science University of California, Berkeley Jan 2016 – Jan 2020 ### Los Gatos High School Jan 2012 – Jan 2016 ### Wilderness First Responder in Wilderness Medicine NOLS ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/neil-lugovoy - Website: https://neillugovoy.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/neillugovoy JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/neillugovoy/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-20
