# Nicholas Barnett > Senior Software Engineer at Hiro Systems, ex-Opensea (one of the first 20 employees), ex-Microsoft Location: Austin, Texas, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/nicholasbarnett I am a full-stack software engineer who is deeply passionate about technology. I truly feel spoiled to be alive right now, during a time when so there are so many cool, sci-fi technologies in development, that are mere years, or maybe a decade away, from completely changing how people live and the world operates: AI, AR/VR, BCI, etc.. I love learning about these technologies so much and hope to be on the cutting-edge of them one day. Today, I write web applications in Javascript. I work at Microsoft on Azure, and am thoroughly enjoying working on one of the great cloud platforms that is driving immense economies of scale in computing and making it easier than ever before to focus on creating amazing apps and technologies, rather than the hardware running underneath them. By the way, I graduated from Princeton University with degrees in both economics and finance, and thus combine both high-level technical expertise and real-world modeling and problem-solving skills using data and statistical analysis. VR/AR is actually the area of technology I am excited about the most. From my own research and reading "Ready Player One", I believe the technology has the potential to revolutionize the education, social, and gaming spaces. I keep myself abreast of changes and advances in the field, and in tech in general, through reading TechCrunch, Hackernews, VRScout, Road to VR, etc. I am a passionate, life-long learner and enjoy spending my free time learning new web technologies and how to develop VR experiences in C# with Unity. Languages: Javascript/Typescript, C++, Python, Java Front-end: React, Redux/MobX, HTML/CSS, JQuery, D3, Webpack Back-end: Node/Express, MongoDB/Mongoose, Bookshelf, Knex, PostgreSQL, mySQL Tools: Socket.io, Mocha/Chai/Sinon ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Hiro Jan 2022 – Present | United States Scaling Bitcoin by building the biggest BTC L2 ### Software Engineer @ OpenSea Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 Built and scaled the world's largest NFT marketplace. ### Software Engineer 2 @ Microsoft Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Seattle, Washington, United States Helping build and expand container monitoring solutions for Microsoft Azure Kubernetes services. ● Delivered an enterprise level software product, from inception to completion, in a little over a year. Manage weekly deployments of Azure bits. ● Deployed CI infrastructure and code into the Chinese national cloud. ● Delivered Health for KubeCon 2019, a new UI that abstracts a health model from Kubernetes health signals to help users spot issues on their clusters faster. ● Developed a new Azure extension and migrated my team’s service over to it. My work drastically improved my team’s development environment, decreased long-term maintenance risks, and improved app load times. ● Overhauled team’s collection of workbooks to take advantage of new workbook features that improved load times by well over 50%, and by making workbooks compatible with all cluster types was able to cut the number of workbooks my team maintains in half. ### Software Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2017 – Jan 2021 | Redmond, WA Working in Azure cloud, on Container Insights, a monitoring and diagnostics tool for Azure Kubernetes Services ### Economics Center Research Assistant @ University of Cincinnati Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Cincinnati, OH • Developed and performed quality assurance for various data lists • Conducted research and wrote economic analysis reports to support senior associate projects • Worked on Springfield financial capability assessment submitted to EPA.
