# Nicholas Tran > Software Engineer at Middesk Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/nicholastran1 When I was a child, I always enjoyed filling out the Math workbooks my mother brung home. There was always something to complete, a problem that needed to be solved. If I bumped into a wall of numbers, I wouldn't relax until my brain could understand and climb over it. Needless to say, I love solving problems. Growing up I loved martial arts movies: Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Jet Li. I especially loved films such as Rocky where we have our underdog training to defeat the man on top. The self growth through sheer hard work and training is the most captivating part of these movies. It inspires me to keep pushing forward even if the path I choose doesn't yield the highest rewards. Working to improve rather than working for physical rewards is a huge part of influencing the decisions I make. Even in college studying for my CS degree, I reached many hurdles: long hours at night coding, obscure bugs affecting my test results etc. Even if I wouldn't get all the points possible or the grade I wanted, I powered through them because I know the knowledge that I've gained for myself will be worth the struggles I endured. Even now, I love learning new technologies, new techniques, and new understandings which will impact my self-growth. The process of becoming stronger is the biggest self-motivation I have for pursuing my future goals so that I may apply my impact on this world for the better.
