B/R has proven to be an influential social voice in a rapidly changing media environment. Here, "Content is King," but we have a strong technical backbone that has allowed us to scale with our increasing user and engagement workload. Currently, we are the #1 company based on traffic using Elixir for nearly all our back end services. We have also converted the majority of our web clients to use React. My core role at B/R has been to support our internal-facing services that help get content into our app fast. This entails a content management system built on React and Redux, and various Elixir and Ruby services on the back end. A few things I have done: • Helped rewrite our internal content management system from Backbone to React with Redux, all in a manner that was conducive for new features throughout the process. • Managed a project to get our CMS application and associated apps in our Production/Staging environments to run over SSL. • Using Elixir and Postgres' trigram indices, implemented a very fast, full-text fuzzy search for our 8.5+ million users. • Built many private NPM packages that help create a consistent, fluid development experience for re-usable features across applications. • Work in various areas of our stack from Javascript clients to Elixir and Ruby back end services. • Have built familiarity over time with AWS technologies. Though not a core part of my job, has increased my knowledge of our ecosystem allowing me to improve communication with Ops and make better development decisions. • Gained experience working with Docker as all our apps run on it. ### Software Engineer @ Yuzu™ Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 - Helped build our Trickle Sync technology that connects multiple client-side applications with up-to-date user actions using Redis to store events (“patches”) and push notifications to inform client apps of changes. - Managed the data migration process for duplicating over 200,000 user accounts to Redis for Trickle Sync. - Refactored our DRM (Delivery Rights Management) API to fix multiple, long-standing bugs and improve test coverage and code maintainability. - Worked on our E-Commerce site (yuzu.com) using a Database-less Rails application that requests data from our APIs rendering the data using Mithril.js and JSX with layouts involving JQuery and CSS Flexbox. - Built various features of our Yuzu Admin Portal in areas such as, user account management, locker management, and Barnes and Noble catalog reporting, enabling Yuzu employees to easily update our system with necessary information. ### Content Management Intern at Active Golf @ ACTIVE Network Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | San Diego ACTIVE Network is the technology leader in activity and participant management software, powering over 47k+ organizations worldwide. - Successfully launched 13 customer websites using HTML/CSS and the Active Content Management system to update content and deliver a visually pleasing and structured site. - Solved customer website editing and implementation issues across a variety of browsers. - Facilitated communications between customers and management team by organizing information and feedback through Asana. ## Education ### Bachelors in Social Science in Environmental Studies San Diego State University Jan 2012 – Jan 2014 ### Graduate in Computer Software Engineering Dev Bootcamp Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/nickcantelmi - GitHub: http://github.com/nickcan --- Source: https://flows.cv/nickcantelmi JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/nickcantelmi/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
