# Nicolas Sippl-Swezey > Lead Software Engineer Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/nicolassipplswezey ## Work Experience ### Lead Software Engineer @ Glimpse Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 ### Lead Software Engineer @ Chatalyze Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area I led the stabilization, refactor and penetration test certification of real-time-video conference app deployed live for Alphabet subsidiary. Stabilized API server, socket messaging integration, Swift iOS app, Kotlin Android app and web client. Implemented 1000+ user agent scalability testing around app using ec2 to enable and validate refactors and fixes. ### Lead Software Engineer @ Burning Man Project Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area Led rebuild of legacy Wordpress client to modern PHP-React client Trained engineering team in modern web, react, testing, version control, CI to take over solo product Shipped the current Burning Man Profiles for live ticket sales at scale. ### Lead Software Engineer @ VoltAGE - Voluntary Acts of Gifting Endlessly Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco Built custom React-Native integration for the Deep Belief Objective-C++ image classification SDK. Trained and deployed a mobile-optimized device-side image classification model that successfully identified physical target objects in real-time, and then facilitated the gifting of those objects from one care taker to another. Experimental mobile AR. ### Enterprise Instructor / Sr. Full Stack Developer @ Galvanize Inc Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 ### Lead Instructor @ Autodesk + Hackreactor Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | San Francisco, CA I welcome principle software engineers and architects into the world of engineering web applications through intensive 60+ hour-a-week training. Delivered 6 week intensive curriculum that enabled engineers to create new web-based product prototypes. Delivered an aggressively accelerated refactor of 6 week curriculum into a 2 week format. Simple metrics for success: quantity of effort(hours) x quality of coding hour(instruction). I do what it takes to motivate and maintain both quantity and quality. "Welcome to the Internet." ### Open Source Developer @ Nodal JS Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | github I gave tech talks, wrote documentation, technical blog posts, tutorials and example APIs for this great node framework. ### Cofounder @ Nova Modeler Jan 2011 – Jan 2015 I introduce professors, high school teachers, graduate students, undergraduates and high school students to simulation modeling using JavaScript to author dynamic, interactive, experiential learning software. We implement rapid-prototyping and test-driven development approaches to modeling and simulation. Workshop and guest lecture hosts include UC Berkeley's Environmental Science and Policy Management, UC Berkeley School of Public Health, Oberlin College, Hebrew University Jerusalem Israel, University Kwa Zulu-Natal South Africa, the Bay School, the Urban School, Castilleja, Aptos High and Google. www.novamodeler.com ### Hacker In Residence @ Hack Reactor Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 Worked with high performing team of engineers and educators delivering immersive intensive software engineering curriculum, with emphasis on full stack web applications. Mentored teams of software engineers through project scoping, development workflow, MVP, iteration, and product delivery. ### Research Specialist @ UCSF Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 I worked with physicians, public health officials, statisticians, computer scientists and mathematicians to help better understand the transmission, prevention and treatment of disease. This has included creating abstract complex-agent models of infectious disease transmission exploring the effects of patient non-disclosure and non-compliance on spread of disease; investigating ideal timing of intervention to maximize benefits of malarial treatment in Africa; and spacial agent-based simulations of clinical trial randomization to assist planning of a very large trial in Africa. Currently I manage, analyze and visualize clinical trial data with a team that is investigating interventions for retinal degeneration and blindness. ### Lecturer @ UC Berkeley Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | University California Berkeley Lectured Fall 2013: ERG/ESPM/IB 205 — Quantitative Methods for Ecological and Environmental Modeling. Taught, coached and mentored undergraduate students through a challenging quantitative degree-requirement course while simultaneously introducing novel software into the course. Received positive course evaluation reviews in the face of regular in-development software issues. ### Volunteer, Training Supervisor and Project Supervisor @ Amigos de las Americas Jan 2005 – Jan 2007 | Santa Clara, CA and San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic Worked in Latin America as a community development facilitator. Trained 25 high school students to be live in rural Latin America and serve as dynamic peer-to-peer community leaders. Made sure every single on of our volunteers was equipped for success. National office complimented the quality of our volunteers. Supervised 16 young adults living with host families in rural and urban communities. Created from scratch, developed and maintained strong working partnerships with families and community leaders to facilitate intercultural partnerships and youth-driven community development projects. ## Education ### Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics and Biology Oberlin College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/nsipplswezey --- Source: https://flows.cv/nicolassipplswezey JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/nicolassipplswezey/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-30
