# Nicole Glabinski > Senior Software Engineer at EvenUp Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/nicoleglabinski Interested in machine learning/AI and working on complex systems. Highlights: backend systems (Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, etc) at ngrok; ranking/search ML and infrastructure at Thumbtack; computer vision and robotics research at MIT CSAIL ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ EvenUp Jan 2024 – Present ### Software Engineer @ EvenUp Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 ### Senior Software Engineer @ Cruise Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 ### Software Engineer @ ngrok Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 • Worked on latency-sensitive systems handling network traffic, with technologies such as Redis and Kafka. • Overhauled the core services to allow traffic to fail-over to multiple ngrok agent instances for fault tolerance. • Added the ability to inject geo-IP information to tunnel traffic headers using an external data source ### Software Engineer @ Thumbtack Jan 2017 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area • Worked on core product front page search, matching, and ranking; everyday development included Go services, offline Spark jobs in Scala, machine learning model development, and integration of new features into the website. • Designed and built an internal tool for comparing ranking algorithms, which continues to be used nearly daily by the team to allow faster iteration and debugging of ranking algorithms. • Overhauled the retrieval system powering the front page search bar allowing customers to access more specific result lists from their search. • Performed data analysis for experiments and undertook experimental machine learning projects, e.g. the initial investigation of moving ranking from heuristic- to ML-driven. • Advised other engineers on developing within our near real-time Elasticsearch ranking data pipeline to ensure performant data retrieval. • Mentored and onboarded an intern and peer engineer. ### Student Researcher @ MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States • Trained a machine learning CNN model to identify visual attributes of objects, e.g. shape, color, and texture. • Combined these visual attributes with a language grounding system to disambiguate unknown objects in a conversational human-robot interface. In other words, the robot can be told the object is e.g. blue or plastic to help it narrow down among the unknown objects in the scene. Extended Abstract: Nicole Glabinski, Rohan Paul, and Nicholas Roy, "Grounding Natural Language Instructions with Unknown Object References using Learned Visual Attributes", AAAI Fall Symposium on Natural Communication for Human Robot Collaboration (2017). ### Software Engineering Intern @ Thumbtack Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | San Francisco, CA • Created a machine learning classifier to classify sessions as human or bot to improve data cleanliness for analysis. • Implemented the classification step for the offline event processing pipeline using Scala and Spark. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Evernote Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Redwood City, CA ## Education ### Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Massachusetts Institute of Technology Jan 2012 – Jan 2016 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/nicole-glabinski --- Source: https://flows.cv/nicoleglabinski JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/nicoleglabinski/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
