Selected by the Cornell eLab Student Startup Accelerator (Fall 24’) out of 200+ applicants. Pitched at 2024 Cornell Tech Entrepreneurship showcase in NYC. We just received multiple micro-grants to further our mission. If you’re interested in contributing to the cause, reach out! ### Independent Researcher, Multimodal Learning @ Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science Jan 2024 – Jan 2026 | Ithaca, New York, United States Conducted research on multimodal learning with applications in education and accessibility, focusing on integrating speech, text, and visual representations from STEM lectures. Supervised by Prof. Jennifer Sun. ### Software Engineer, Cornell AI Innovation Lab @ Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Ithaca, NY Developed a RAG-based agentic AI solution to enhance productivity in audit and review processes for Cornell’s College of Agricultural & Life Sciences. Implemented a second-opinion clinical chatbot for the vet school. Collaborated with departmental administrators to design and integrate AI solutions. ### Research Assistant, Robot Learning @ Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Ithaca, NY Worked on LRR, Cornell's first educational robot used in introductory robotics courses. Implemented path-finding algorithms for obstacle navigation and collision-free trajectory generation. Documented bugs and pain points to prepare the platform for broader classroom and research use. ### Researcher, Deep Learning Theory @ Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 | Ithaca, NY Conducted research on the mathematical foundations of neural networks and knowledge distillation under the supervision of Prof. Yunan Yang. Later worked on independent research and produced an original theorem establishing explicit bounds on neural network complexity required to approximate nonlinear operators between Sobolev spaces. ### Research Assistant, LLM Compression @ Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Ithaca, NY Researched model-preserving compression techniques for neural networks and LLMs, with a focus on eigen-estimation algorithms under the supervision of Prof. Anil Damle. Analyzed BERT outputs for low-rank structures and experimented with customized decomposition methods to enable efficient compression without significant performance loss. ### ROMUS Research Fellow, Mathematics @ The Ohio State University Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan Area Selected as 1 of 15 undergraduates nationwide for a fully funded 10-week pure math research program. Completed graduate coursework in stochastic calculus, numerical analysis, and PDEs, and received an NSF grant to develop an SPDE-based options pricing model. The work led to a first-author paper selected by Joint Mathematics Meetings and was evaluated by traders in practice. ### Nexus Research Scholar, Machine Learning @ Cornell University Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Ithaca, NY Inaugural class of Nexus Scholars. Selected out of 300+ applicants and awarded $7000 research fund. Supervised by Prof. Ray Jayawardhana and Dr. Laura Flagg at Caltech. Designed and implemented a novel data and machine learning pipeline specialized for classifying solar flares in high-resolution spectra. Published a first-author paper in the Astrophysical Journal. ## Education ### Postgraduate Degree in Neuroscience Harvard University Jan 2025 – Jan 2026 ### BA (2021 - 2024) in MEng (2024 - 2025), Mathematics and Computer Science Cornell University Jan 2021 – Jan 2025 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/nicolehao34 - Website: https://nicolehao34.github.io --- Source: https://flows.cv/nicolehao JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/nicolehao/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
