Mentorship & Collaboration: Coaching engineers, working cross-functionally, driving engineering best practices. ## Work Experience ### Engineering Manager | Founder @ Chuva Jan 2020 – Present Developed and optimized Less, an AWS-native Infrastructure from Code framework, streamlining cloud deployments and reducing setup time by over 90%. Designed and implemented offline development mode for Less, enabling engineers to build cloud-native applications without an internet connection. Architected and deployed real-time event-driven systems using SNS/SQS, DynamoDB Streams, Kinesis Streams, and Lambda Functions. Worked closely with engineering teams to design and maintain fault-tolerant distributed architectures. Created Ping, a peer-to-peer fintech application enabling seamless payments across multiple countries. Engaged in collaborative decision-making with engineers and stakeholders to align Less and Ping with industry best practices. ### Event Organizer @ TEDxMindelo Jan 2022 – Present | Mindelo, Cape Verde ### Senior Staff Software Engineer @ Lavu Inc. Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | Miami, Florida, United States At Lavu, my key responsibility and contribution was leading the planning, design, architecture, and implementation, of the payment system used by the POS. This was a critical role that sent ripple effects throughout the entire company as much of the company growth and success depended on it's successful implementation. My day-to-day consisted in working cross-functionally with key company stakeholders such as the CEO, Director of Product, Director of Engineering, and other key engineering and product leads. I also sat at the center of partnerships, discussions, and collaborations with several payment processing companies, including PayPal and FreedomPay, working regularly with their product and engineering teams in order to help bring their solutions to market through Lavu products and services. Processing payments in an international POS system poses quite a few challenges. Perhaps one of the biggest challenges is dealing with several countries and their respective currencies, laws, regulations, cultures, and payment processors. What this means to me technically is that there are many potential points of failure. This is compounded by the fact that we have multiple integration points, all of which work completely differently while achieving the same goal. One of the achievements I am most proud of was being able to successfully unify all of this complexity into a simple interface through our Payment API and Payment SDK, making it faster and easier to integrate with new systems while reducing the number of issues faces by customers. Some technologies used: - Objective-C - Swift - Javascript - Java - React - React Native - Redux - Node.js - MongoDB - Kafka - Dozens of physical payment devices connected to LAN, Bluetooth, AUX, and more. - Integration with several payment processors and gateways. - ...and much more. ### Lead iOS Engineer @ RedZone Map Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area - Manage team of iOS Engineers in the development of RedZone Map app - Improved Agile development using Jira - Setup continuous integration system with new Git workflow, Fastlane, Bamboo, Testflight, and HockeyApp - Improved software development processes and practices - Influence changes and improvements across all engineering teams ### Software Engineer @ CareCloud Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 - Developing iPhone app Breeze which enables healthcare patients to complete forms/surveys, manage insurance information, and submit payments ### Software Engineer @ LifeWallet, LLC Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Miami, Florida Built AI-powered healthcare solutions, integrating IBM Watson for smarter patient diagnostics and engagement. Developed HIPAA-compliant remote healthcare applications, improving digital medical services accessibility. Engineered secure FHIR-based APIs for interoperability with hospital systems and insurance providers. Partnered with Baptist Hospital (South Florida) & insurance companies to create tailored healthtech solutions. --- - Developing iPad apps Engage and Encounter - Developing iPhone app HealthBook - Developing an internal framework - Implement complex custom UI in code - Create custom graph that plots thousands of data points - Integrate with internal RESTful service - Work with HealthKit and ResearchKit - Work with BLE Beacons for location-based services - Implement push notifications - Integrated with IBM Watson services - Use Core Data to persist data ## Education ### Associate of Arts (AA) in Computer Engineering Miami Dade College ### Associate of Science (A.S.) in Computer Programming & Analysis - Business Applications Miami Dade College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/nilsonnascimento --- Source: https://flows.cv/nilson JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/nilson/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-29
