# Nisha Prabhakar > Software Engineer @ Verkada Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/nishaprabhakar Highly motivated to use technology to create real impact in the communities around me. Always excited to grow, learn, and expand my skills in new directions. I have worked with Python, Golang, C++, machine learning, and AWS services. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Verkada Jan 2023 – Present | San Mateo, California, United States Security SWE on Verkada's detection and response team. ### Machine Learning Developer @ Launchpad (UC Berkeley) Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | Berkeley, California, United States Spring 2021 Project: ShallowSleep A paper released a few years ago from MIT proposed an alternative solution to sleep tracking: determining sleep stages with a ML model using radio signals. We implemented this model, and achieved a fairly high accuracy. I experimented with implementing a ResNet model to be our encoder. I also helped create a website to display the data using React. Fall 2021 Project: Scribe We constructed a model which has the ability to generate images of a user’s handwriting using very few samples of the handwriting by combining the ScrabbleGANN and Reptile architectures. We added an extra discriminator to ScrabbleGANN called a “Recognizer” which pushes the GANN to generate text in the same style as a specific user. Spring 2022 Project: Launchpad x DroppTV I worked with a startup, DroppTV, to create a model to effectively classify a shoe’s brand and model from video data. I experimented with self-supervised contrastive learning, which aims to create an embedding space where similar samples are close together. I also tuned training hyper parameters to increase model performance and generalizability on two separate datasets. ### Software Engineering Intern, Assistant Studio Platform Engineering Team @ Meta Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 | Seattle, Washington, United States I improved an entity classification model for wit.ai, a platform to build natural language understanding models and re- solved long-standing user errors. To do this, I implemented the new model architecture, along with its loss, metrics, and torchscript conversion methods. Next, I designed and created a training pipeline which fetches data, trains the model, and publishes the model to production. Finally, I integrated the model into the wit.ai backend and deployed the model to Czech-speaking users. ### Research Assistant @ UC Berkeley Hybrid Systems Lab Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Berkeley, California, United States We are working to improve autonomous control of floating seaweed farms using ocean currents. I created a lightweight and accurate model of seaweed growth to aid in planning for optimal seaweed growth, and I developed the model using the jax.numpy library and integrating with the simulation hosted on c3.ai’s platform. Now, I am exploring different methods of planning a route far in the future without accurate temperature forecasts. ### CS 170 Reader @ UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS) Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Berkeley, California, United States As a reader for CS 170, I helped students with their homework in office hours. I also helped create rubrics and graded the students' homework and exams. ### Software Engineering Intern, Commerce Ranking Infrastructure Team @ Meta Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 I built a framework that will be a part of Facebook’s newly developed ranking platform (Ranker 3.0). In Meta's commerce products (Marketplace), items are post-processed after they are ranked by an ML model. This post-processing includes grouping items together into modules, separating items from a certain shop, etc. I created a configuration-based class which implements post-processing rules. This will allow Ranking Engineers to develop and test business logics faster and with less risk of major error. ### CS 70 Academic Intern @ UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS) Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Berkeley, California, United States I assisted students with discussion worksheets focused on discrete mathematics and probability theory. ### EECS 16A Lab and Content Development Assistant @ UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS) Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Berkeley, California, United States I assisted students with Electrical Engineering lab experiments. Specifically, I answer questions and quiz students to ensure their understanding of the material. In addition, I work on developing labs for the coming weeks. In this development process, I implement feedback from other lab assistants on early versions of a lab, as well creating new content. ### System Administration Intern @ Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Livermore, California, United States I installed a cluster of high performance compute nodes, configured the operating system, and installed relevant packages. I then automated the process with Ansible. I created a central database which stores information about systems in a HPC cluster using mySQL and Python. The relational database is easily queried from anywhere within the network, and it updates automatically when changes are made to the system configuration. ### EECS 16A Lab Assistant @ UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS) Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Berkeley, California, United States I mainly assisted students with Electrical Engineering lab experiments. Specifically, I answered questions and quizzed students to ensure their understanding of the material. In addition, I developed content for the shift from in-person to online lab sections, and debugged labs to make sure they run smoothly and do not contain errors. ### CS61A Academic Intern @ UC Berkeley Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (EECS) Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Berkeley, California, United States I assisted with a lab section of around 30 students to help with lab assignments and larger projects. Assignments were mainly focused on fundamental computer science topics, such as recursion and tree structures. Python, SQL, and Scheme were emphasized. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science University of California, Berkeley Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 ### National University of Singapore Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 ### Foothill High School Jan 2015 – Jan 2019 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/nisha-prabhakar --- Source: https://flows.cv/nishaprabhakar JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/nishaprabhakar/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
