# Noah Brown > Making robots useful and keeping them usable. Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/noahbrown Mechatronics Engineer and Operations Lead with 9 years of experience in Robotics Research. As an Engineer and Ops lead and technician at Physical Intelligence I am responsible for the bringup and testing of new platforms from a variety of vendors, the continued up time of ~70 individual robotic arms from 6 different manufacturers and in house designs, and the direction and management of over 50 operators to align with research needs. Previously, as an Operations Lead for Google Brain lab, I lead a team of 17 individuals in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments utilizing a fleet of 22 robots. My experience combines extensive engineering, people management, and lab management responsibilities. I provide continuous iterative support on ever-changing cutting edge robotics research. I have an invested interest in improving lab setup and lab safety, often overlooked in research environments. I am excited to continue contributing to pushing the limits of AI with physical actions. ## Work Experience ### Engineer @ Physical Intelligence Jan 2024 – Present Maintaining, expanding, and designing a fleet of robots. ### Mechatronics Engineer @ FS Studio Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 | United States Led a growing operations team of up to 22 to provide support to multiple fast moving, cutting edge research projects. In the field of imitation learning I led a team which collected over 125 thousand expert demonstrations of a variety of tasks that were then used to train BC and RL models. This is likely the largest robotics IL dataset in the world. Designed experimental procedures and ran over 1000 individual experiments to date. Operated 23 robots both under supervision and autonomously and created safety procedures to do so. CAD modeling and 3d printing of attachments to robots. Wrote scripted behaviors to improve the human interaction with the robot. Wrote queries for key operational metrics defined by me and my superiors. ### Test Engineer @ X, the moonshot factory Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | Mountain View, California Test Engineer in robotics at X, The Moonshot Factory via contract. Added testing coverage, both unit and integration tests, across several projects. Worked extensively alongside researchers in machine learning to develop and execute experiments. Added updates to existing internal tools and reduced complexity in utility bash scripts. ### Software Developer @ FileYourTaxes.com Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Ventura, CA - Develop, test and deploy cloud-based e-filing solutions. ### Undergraduate Student Researcher @ University of California, Santa Cruz Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 Researcher for the Dynamics Autonomous Navigation Surface Engineering and Robotics (DANSER) Lab in conjunction with the Assistive Sociotechnical Solutions for Individuals with Special needs through Technology (ASSIST) Lab at University of California Santa Cruz. The project: * A Unity based, virtual reality game which would require the users to perform physical therapy while being more entertaining than traditional constraint based methods. The game was designed specifically with stroke victims in mind. Responsibilities: * Conducting user testing and using it to gain data, both quantitative and qualitative, to focus on areas to improve the game. * Implement any improvements or suggestions discovered in the user testing in our C# Unity game. * Add a system to log the physical data of the users through the built in HTC vive tools. Send that physical data to an SQL database via a back end PHP script. Eventually would like this to be animated/visualized data so therapists could view their patients progress without the patients having to go through the ordeal of getting to the office. ### QA Analyst @ DLS Software Studios Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 * DLS Software Studios was an agile software development company, dedicated to providing clean, professional, e-commerce solutions to our clients. * I worked closely with the high profile digital ticket lottery system mentioned in magazines such as The New York Times. While working on the lottery I discovered issues with the randomness element or our ticket drawing system, as well as with the cron email system informing the users of the result. My diligent quality analysis allowed these problems to be discovered and fixed before release, making the actual release to production a resounding success. * My testing included both black box and white box methods, and involved numerous elements of software from the functionality of a point of sale system written in C, to the UI aspects of wordpress and drupal hosted e-commerce sites. ### Service Assistant @ Costco Wholesale Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | City of Commerce I worked in the food court rotating on register, making the food, tending the oven, and keeping the kitchen and eating area clean. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Science & Computer Engineering University of California, Santa Cruz ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/noah-brown-40157b124 --- Source: https://flows.cv/noahbrown JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/noahbrown/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
