SMS is responsible for migrating on-premise workloads to AWS, where a system of replication jobs and replication runs keeps a workload's AWS instance up-to-date. My first project was to create an API to make replication jobs resilient to failures, as customers are forced to completely reupload a workload if its corresponding replication job failed. This went on to save customers an average 20% of the bandwidth they were previously using for server migration, as SMS could now recover replication jobs with uncorrupted data. After finishing my first project for the summer, I went on to create a dashboard for engineers to view all of SMS's operational, business, and performance metrics in one place. This project called on me to apply my frontend design skills in finding a balance between minimalism and informativity. ### MTS Intern @ Nutanix Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco Bay Area Over the summer of 2017, I had the privilege of being a MTS (Member of Technical Staff) Intern at Nutanix, the Enterprise Cloud Company. Over the course of my internship, I used Python to create a tester-oriented implementation of Nutanix's V3 REST API. I also used my library to write functionality tests that diagnosed the state of the API every day and displayed the results on a UI for engineers to see. ### Research Assistant @ Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania I worked alongside a team of graduate students on implementing swarm algorithms in iRobots. Our goal was to get the robots to talk directly to each other without exchanging information through a server. One application of our work is getting one robot tell others to take pictures of you when it notices you smiling. We are also working on implementing quadrotors into the swarm to act as commanders that survey the scene from above. ### Teacher/Contributor @ FreeCodeCamp Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 Over the summer of 2016, I spent a lot of time contributing to FreeCodeCamp, an open source alternative to websites like Codecademy. My work consisted of creating programming activities and offering ideas to help cultivate the curriculum, as well as debugging and expanding on current activities. I also spent a lot of time discussing ideas to improve the site with other contributors, as well as helping users of the website out when they were stuck. ### Software Quality Intern @ QLogic Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Palo Alto, California In my work at QLogic, I reviewed and repaired a test case repository consisting of over 12,000 test cases for testing drivers of QLogic network host bus adapters. I also helped engineering Integration Test Team members in utilizing Quality Center for diagnosing and repairing failed test cases. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering Carnegie Mellon University ### Cupertino High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/oalhait --- Source: https://flows.cv/omaralhait JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/omaralhait/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
