# Paige Carlson > Master’s Graduate Specializing in ML | Exploring CS for Good Location: Greater Boston, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/paigecarlson Having recently obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Data Science from UMass Amherst, I am particularly excited to turn ML research into real-world solutions that make life easier and more interesting. My experience ranges from researching in-context bias in large language models (LLaMA 3) and fine-tuning BERT to building tools in C#, JavaScript, and TypeScript that improve the workflows of model developers through multiple internships. I’m no stranger to PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, and PySpark. Whether I’m prototyping a recipe search system with MongoDB Atlas Search or automating deployment script runs with Azure DevOps REST APIs, I keep my work fresh but practical. I’m open to opportunities at the intersection of ML and software engineering—if it’s ethical, I’m game. On the side, I have strong feelings about baked goods, both in making and eating them (y'know, “macaron” != “macaroon” and I take that seriously). There are many hyperparameters to tune. It’s easy to forget how much thought goes into a pastry, as with most great things in life, including this web application we are on. I yearn to be a part of it. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Oden Technologies Jan 2025 – Present ### Software Engineering Intern @ Zelis Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 Constructed a Windows Forms prototype to reduce the time spent reporting on deployment script results from 30 to 5 minutes. Added features like logging, pre-parsing, and interactive prompts, sorting reports by status. Built with C# (.NET 8), using LINQ and the Entity Framework. Integrated the Jira API to run scripts attached to a Jira issue and document results as comments, improving quality and accountability for critical, production-level code. Used the Azure DevOps Services REST API to run scripts on Team Foundation Version Control by comparing check-in dates with ‘last run’ dates/statuses in a Microsoft SQL Server database. Extended the prototype to a CLI tool for automatic script execution in a build pipeline. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Nuance Communications Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 Developed new API calls for a virtual assistant SDK using TypeScript to directly stream audio for NLP results, reducing dependencies. Handled transaction states during a virtual assistant session when streaming audio, studying the importance of order in ACKs and responses. Drafted a sequence diagram to reflect changes to the SDK. Tested with Jest framework and demoed in a sample app showing the careful control and release of input in the browser. ### Software Engineering Intern @ Nuance Communications Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 Built a date and time converter using C# to parse JSON NLU calendar results into a standardized format, making assumptions based on context so healthcare professionals can set key reminders. Designed, unit tested, and delivered the feature to a priority client a year ahead of schedule. Enhanced a CLI tool and templating language to produce diverse training sets for a virtual assistant. Compiled into XML, error checking using JavaScript. Immediately adopted by developers. Parameterized lengthy tests to clean up code. Participated in daily scrums, following Agile practices. ### Sales Representative @ Crowley Photos Jan 2016 – Jan 2020 | Massachusetts, United States Worked directly with customers to tailor recommendations for photography packages beyond standard offerings, successfully closing sales in a fast-paced environment across pop-up locations. Performed unique tasks at unexpected hours from a traveling boss. ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Computer Science University of Massachusetts Amherst ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Science University of Massachusetts Amherst ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/phcarlson --- Source: https://flows.cv/paigecarlson JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/paigecarlson/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-28
