# Paul Julius Martinez > Software Engineer, creator of plaintextsports.com and jless, a command-line JSON viewer Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/pauljuliusmartinez Projects: plaintextsports.com: I got tired of waiting for ESPN to load on my phone, so I made a minimalist website that shows live sports scores, play-by-play, and box scores in plain text that loads instantly. No video images, no fancy animations, and no waiting: just plain text sports. jless, a command-line JSON viewer (https://jless.io/) ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Jane Street Jan 2022 – Present | New York, New York, United States ### Senior Software Engineer @ OneSchema Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco, California, United States ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 Added support for Postgres logical replication features (pglogical and wal2json extensions, native logical replication) to Cloud SQL’s Postgres offering ### Software Engineer @ Affinity.co Jan 2016 – Jan 2020 At Affinity I was a critical early member of the engineering team. For much of my time there I was the primary person in charge of infrastructure, scaling, and performance. I was also part of our on-call rotation. Throughout my entire time I also functioned as a traditional full-stack engineer. I was able to build new features completely independently, from designing the database schema and implementing new API endpoints in Ruby to building and styling frontend UI in TypeScript and React. I proactively pushed for and completed many internal tooling projects, such as building an internal admin site, building a feature gating framework, upgrading our frontend build system, and parallelizing our test suite. Specific technical highlights include: - Making a small open-source contribution to Postgres to fix an issue that we had to work around - Rewriting our entire authentication and user account infrastructure with detailed logging, robust error handling, and vastly improved test coverage, making it much easier to debug login issues and simplifying development of strategic long-term company products - Designing a sound, flexible and extensible mathematical model for team-based sharing and permissions ### Course Assistant @ Stanford University Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Stanford, California, United States Winter 2016 - CS 109: Introduction to Probability for Computer Scientists Autumn 2015 - CS 221: Artificial Intelligence: Principles and Techniques Spring 2015 - CS 143: Compilers ### Engineering Intern @ Dropbox Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | San Francisco, California, United States ### Engineering Intern @ JuiceBox Games Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | San Francisco, California, United States ### Engineering Practicum Intern @ Google Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | Mountain View, California, United States ### CS 106A Section Leader (CS 198) @ Stanford University Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | Stanford, California, United States ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) Stanford University Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Mathematics and Computer Science (Systems), with Distinction Stanford University Jan 2011 – Jan 2015 ### University School of Milwaukee Jan 1999 – Jan 2011 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/paul-julius-martinez - Website: https://plaintextsports.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/pauljuliusmartinez JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/pauljuliusmartinez/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
