# Pavlo Babenko > Staff Product Engineer — I find the problems nobody’s looking at. React Native / TypeScript / 12 yrs shipping mobile & web Location: Warsaw Metropolitan Area, Poland Profile: https://flows.cv/pavlo I'm a product engineer. I build mobile and web apps — and I care as much about why we're building as how. For the past 12 years, I've worked across startups and scale: founding engineer at a healthcare startup, early React Native adopter who taught 20 engineers while learning it myself, and most recently a Staff Engineer supporting a B2C app serving 7M+ monthly users. Some things I've done: → Discovered a neglected revenue funnel costing millions monthly. Built the case, got exec buy-in, and led the turnaround with a dedicated team. → Flew to San Francisco to watch real patients use our app. Simplified onboarding from 10 screens to 3. → Introduced E2E testing across 3 squads, cutting regression hotfixes by 40%. → Built a personal finance app (WithinBudget) from scratch — sub-100ms interactions, published to App Store. I do my best work when I can connect technical decisions to real outcomes: revenue, retention, reliability, user satisfaction. I like small slices, fast feedback, and teams where engineers own problems end-to-end. Tech: React Native, Expo, React, TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, Ruby on Rails, Go, AWS Practices: CI/CD, E2E Testing (Maestro), A/B Testing, Feature Flags, System Design, Agile Currently wrapping up my contract (on great terms — both my manager and his manager offered to be references) and looking for my next product engineering role. Remote preferred. Built the business case, got executive buy-in, and formed a dedicated team to own the turnaround. → Led development of Refer a Friend — another key revenue feature. Joined early, mentored a fellow engineer through the project, partnered closely with product, and shipped it. → Fixed a production-only bug that no one in the organization could reproduce. Dug through package dependencies, found dead code in Okta's React Native library, and convinced Okta to patch it upstream. → Drove platform stability for a B2C mobile app serving 7M+ of users — redesigned auth flow, reduced TTI, introduced E2E testing with Maestro. → Go-to person for cross-platform architecture decisions. Led training sessions to help web engineers transition to mobile. Wrote extensive technical documentation. → Active advocate for AI adoption — introduced Claude Code to the team and built internal tooling around it. ### Lead Software Engineer / Project Manager @ SNOQUALMIE VALLEY PRESERVATION ALLIANCE Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 → Led a 3-month contract to rebuild an NGO's website and build mobile apps for flood tracking. → Used Expo with the new Expo Router to ship iOS, Android, and Web from a single codebase. → Managed the full project lifecycle — planning, architecture, development, and delivery. ### Point Inside — Lead Software Engineer @ Point Inside Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 → Joined as the most senior React Native engineer. Immediately identified structural issues in the codebase and got buy-in for gradual improvements. → Built a design system from scratch to unify the component library and speed up development for the team. → Coached teammates, improved CI/CD pipelines, and raised overall code quality. → Company ran out of runway after 6 months. Led architecture planning for a pivot project before the layoff. ### Sunroom — Senior Software Engineer @ Sunroom Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 → Joined a struggling pre-launch app and fixed video playback performance. Shipped to App Store within 2 months. → Wore every hat — built features, set up analytics pipelines in Tableau, analyzed user behavior, advised CEO on talent retention. → Mentored a junior engineer while shipping features every few days. Highest intensity, highest output period of my career. ### Uniform Teeth — Lead Software Engineer @ Uniform Teeth Jan 2019 – Jan 2022 → Founding mobile engineer. Built the patient-facing React Native app from scratch — architecture, development, App Store negotiations, everything. → Flew from Kyiv to San Francisco to observe real patients using our app. Discovered our 10-screen onboarding was so painful that treatment coordinators were filling it in for patients. Pushed back, simplified to 3 screens, and saw satisfaction increase from both patients and staff. → Worked across the stack when needed — contributed to Ruby on Rails backend and Go services to unblock mobile features. → Shipped under HIPAA compliance requirements. Learned healthcare software is a different beast. ### Axsy — Senior Software Engineer @ Axsy Jan 2015 – Jan 2019 → Pioneered React Native adoption when it was 6 months old. Evaluated Ember+Cordova (failed — 11s TTI on Android), then bet on React Native and it paid off. → Taught the technology to 20 experienced engineers while learning it myself. Ran training sessions, wrote documentation, and became the internal expert. → Architected a Salesforce FSL clone supporting iOS, Android, Windows, and Web from a single codebase. Built a system to publish customized, white-labeled apps for different clients. → Go-to engineer for CEO demos. Could ship happy-path features for new client pitches in a week. ### Lead Software Engineer @ Perfectionist Media Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 → Built a user management CMS using Ruby on Rails with full-text search on PostgreSQL. → Optimized search queries, reducing page load time from 3s to ~350ms. → Led development across dozens of small websites with complex UIs and business logic. ### Web Developer @ Unteleported Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 → First professional engineering role. Learned Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, and test-driven development from experienced mentors. → Built an internal messaging system, full-text search, and PDF export for an online education platform. → Developed merchant and partner web portals for a payments startup. Architected an online banking client portal with Ember.js. → Promoted TDD and BDD practices across the development team. ## Education ### Master's degree in High Technologies Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 ### Bachelor's Degree in Radiophysics (applied physics and engineering) Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Jan 2008 – Jan 2013 ### Kiev Natural Science Liceum №145 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/pavlobabenko - GitHub: https://github.com/chukcha-wtf --- Source: https://flows.cv/pavlo JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/pavlo/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
