# Pete Petrash > AI-focused Product Designer & Engineer Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/petepetrash I'm a design engineer who designs and builds novel LLM interfaces, turning experimental AI capabilities into intuitive, production-ready experiences. With 15+ years spanning product design and engineering, I specialize in the messy middle between powerful yet unpredictable models and human needs. At Plumb, I led design and contributed to the frontend architecture for our innovative AI workflow development and subscription platform. I pioneered novel interaction patterns including parallel workflow invocation with human-in-the-loop controls within a Chat interface. I built several core frontend abstractions that accelerated our team's development velocity, enabling engineers to ship new integrations in hours instead of days. The patterns and systems I created pushed the boundaries of what LLM interfaces could do, achieving the polish and reliability typically seen at companies 10x our size. Previously, I was the first IC design hire at Virta Health (currently valued at over $2B+) where I both designed and implemented core product features end-to-end to serve patients reversing their type 2 diabetes, then served as Principal Designer at Bicycle Health, designing the patient app that is helping over 40k patients overcome opioid use disorder. I also co-founded Candle, an ML-driven product for information verification, presaging many current challenges in verifying the authenticity and credibility of information online in the age of generative AI. I prototype relentlessly, exploring emerging capabilities in multi-agent systems, reasoning chains, and multimodal interfaces. My sweet spot is taking barely-possible AI capabilities and making them feel inevitable through thoughtful design and solid engineering. Let's make genuinely great software that unlocks humanity's full potential, shall we? 🤙🤘 ## Work Experience ### Design Engineer @ Ever Jan 2026 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States ### Member of Technical Staff, Founding Design Engineer @ assistant-ui (YC W25) Jan 2025 – Jan 2026 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Product Engineer @ Plumb Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 ### Principal Product Designer & Full Stack Engineer @ Neuralift AI Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 ### Staff Product Designer @ Osmind Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 ### Principal Product Designer & Full Stack Engineer @ Bicycle Health Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Co-Founder, Product @ Candle Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 ### Software Engineer @ Virta Health Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area • Early employee & first designer under Design VP. • Lead product designer for the Patient App, a cross-platform app (iOS/Android/Web) for Virta patients to interface with a health coach, capture biomarker data, and receiving guidance based on a personalized treatment protocol. • Lead code contributor to the Patient App (both web and React Native codebases). Implemented features ranging from viewing health data via interactive biomarker data charts to iOS/Android biometric authentication flows. • Led the design and development of the Virta product design language, Substrate, and initial development of a cross-platform component library using React Native & TypeScript. • Eventually transitioned from the design team to engineering to help facilitate the rollout of our new design system and to focus on scaling our front-end development process. ### Senior Design Engineer @ Virta Health Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Design Engineer @ Virta Health Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco, CA ### Interaction Designer @ The Home Depot Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 Product design, interaction design and prototyping, iOS and Android app design. ### Principal Product Designer @ Vuact Jan 2012 – Jan 2014 | San Francisco Bay Area Designed our brand visuals, wrote copy, and designed + developed the majority of our web app front-end. Designed and developed a novel video player UI based on initial work by CEO and co-founder Mikko Jarvenpaa. Designed and built several landing pages as our messaging evolved. Designed and developed user dashboards. Made several functional prototypes testing potential functionality for both web and mobile. ### Product Designer @ CauseLabs Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 At Causelabs I worked on meaningful products for a variety of different industries. My favorite project was designing a proposal creation system for Blue Planet Network, one of the leading NGOs in the WASH sector (water, sanitation and hygiene). The system enables implementers to easily draw upon the knowledge (what works, what doesn't work?) of their peers when planning new projects around the world to increase their probability of success (the key measurements being effectiveness and longevity). As more proposals are created, peer reviewed, and implemented, the system's knowledge-base becomes more robust and is able to surface increasingly pertinent information during the creation of a new proposal. ## Education ### Hendrix College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/petekp - Portfolio: http://pete.design --- Source: https://flows.cv/petepetrash JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/petepetrash/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
