Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 Joined the monetization team with the promise of being able to revamp and grow all paid features. Reddit prioritized NFT's instead and started dismantling all monetization, and I boomeranged back to Tinder. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Tinder Jan 2020 – Jan 2022 Notable Projects: - Collectibles: Created first lootbox system at Tinder as architect and lead. Users can stochastically sample visual icons that relate to their interests, curate them and display them on their profile. Planned and assigned tasks to a team of four engineers, captures Gen Z interest by allowing easy visual self expression and drives user behavior via rewards. - In App Currency: Designed and lead development of Tinder's first in app currency, a consumable that can be purchased with real money or earned via in-app actions, and then in turn be used to purchase other Tinder products. Multi team project, coordinated with growth team members to onboard them to the revenue codebase. Creates novel economies with different currency flows to influence user behavior and propensity to pay. - Request Locking Client: Realized a system to prevent duplicate API requests, successfully implemented across revenue services to reduce duplicate purchases and guarantee idempotency in some systems not originally designed to be idempotent. Educated the team in understanding issues around idempotency at scale. - Partnership API: Architected and developed Tinder's first B2B API, allowing the BD team to make deals globally to bundle Tinder products with third party services. Third parties interact with the API to generate redeemable codes to share with users, or directly grant Tinder products. Interesting project, required coordination between companies to succeed. ### Software Engineer @ Tinder Jan 2017 – Jan 2020 | Greater Los Angeles Area - Backend engineer working in Node, React and Java on the Revenue Team - Experience executing high impact, large scale, revenue generating features - Designs and implements projects - Communicates across teams on product, legal, and engineering requirements. ### Application Security Research Intern @ LIFARS, LLC Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | New York City - Progressed from almost zero knowledge to familiarity with cybersecurity concepts and tools. - Completed a comprehensive security review of a mobile application - Learned about Android and Java mobile development and testing - Performed a penetration test of the internal network using newly acquired skills ### Business Development Intern @ Schoology Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | New York City - Delivered a comprehensive report on and analysis of the educational assessment market to the CEO - Engaged in market research and identifying partnership opportunities - Gained familiarity with Excel for analysis - Assisted the sales team with sandboxing products - Learned how a growing company fuctions ### Grip @ Echosworld Entertainment Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 | Los Angeles - Performed the duties of Grip on a variety of shoots. ### Production Assistant @ Various Projects Jan 2011 – Jan 2011 | Los Angeles - Production assistant on several films - Gained experience in a variety of departments - Experienced how a film set is run and succeeded in a fast paced environment ### Video Producer @ Black Sheep Web Tech Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 | Santa Monica - Produced, directed and edited promotional videos and video interviews - Started out doing SEO and gained experience and comfort with cold calling ### Radio DJ @ Pirate Cat Radio Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 | San Francisco Bay Area - Creative pirate radio station reaching most the the San Fransisco Bay Area - Hosted a music and news show, every Sunday from 1-3 pm - Interviewed guests and subbed for other hosts when necessary - Interned on three shows prior to receiving my own ## Education ### Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science | Economics Columbia University Jan 2013 – Jan 2017 ### Data Science (Part Time) General Assembly Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 ### Santa Monica College Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/peter-laffey --- Source: https://flows.cv/peterlaffey JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/peterlaffey/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
