# Phil Crone > Gemini @ Vertex AI Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/phil ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer, Vertex AI Modeling & Quality @ Google Jan 2024 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area ### Software Engineer, Vertex AI Modeling & Quality @ Google Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Software Engineer, Document AI @ Google Jan 2020 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Senior Data Scientist @ Ancestry Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Data Scientist @ Ancestry Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area ### PhD Student, Teaching Assistant @ Stanford University Jan 2012 – Jan 2018 As a PhD student in Stanford's linguistics department, I developed models of multi-agent linguistic interactions using decision theory, Bayesian inference, and artificial neural networks. I also designed and administered web experiments using Amazon Mechanical Turk. I performed data clean-up of these experimental results and analyzed the results using methods such as linear and logistic regression, mixed-effects models, decision trees, and random forests. I worked as a teaching assistant for courses including Introduction to Linguistics, Minds and Machines (Introduction to Symbolic Systems), and Introduction to Semantics and Pragmatics. ### Fellow @ Insight Data Science Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Palo Alto, CA As an Insight Data Science Fellow, I worked on a project to predict how Twitter users would react to promoted tweets that appeared in their feeds. I collected 10,000 responses to promoted tweets using the Twitter API, and then analyzed the sentiment of tweets using VADER sentiment analyzer. I then engineered features of tweets using the word embedding technique GloVe. Using these engineered features, I build and evaluated classifiers to predict tweet’s sentiment from features, using methods including logistic regression, random forests, and deep neural networks. Finally, I created a web app implementing random forest classifier to predict the sentiment of a Twitter user’s response to a tweet. ### Contracts and Accounting Assistant @ The Wylie Agency Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 | New York, NY I wrote permissions agreements and contracts for use of material by clients, including Philip Roth, Salman Rushdie, Al Gore, the Jorge Luis Borges Estate, the Susan Sontag Estate, and many others. I also managed an internal database of corporate financial and accounting records. ### Research Assistant @ Center for Computational Learning Systems Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 I worked as a research assistant for Dr. Rebecca Passonneau on Loqui, a project for improving spoken dialogue systems. I was a co-author of the paper “PARADISE‐style evaluation of a human-human library corpus”, which was accepted to the 2011 SigDial conference. ### Asset Management Assistant @ Columbia University Information Technology Jan 2009 – Jan 2010 ### Intern @ Telos Press Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 ### Canvasser @ Grassroots Campaigns Jan 2008 – Jan 2008 ## Education ### Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Linguistics Stanford University Jan 2012 – Jan 2017 ### B.A. in Philosophy, Linguistics Columbia University Jan 2007 – Jan 2011 ### University of Colorado Boulder ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/phil-crone-45310036 - Website: https://web.stanford.edu/~pcrone - Website: https://philcro.net --- Source: https://flows.cv/phil JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/phil/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
