# Pierre Amelot > Founding Engineer @ Plume | AI geospatial software for renewable site selection Location: Paris, Île-de-France, France Profile: https://flows.cv/pierreamelot I’m a software engineer with a background in product design, building software for climate and energy. Over the past years, I’ve worked across the stack — from React and TypeScript front-ends to backend services and cloud infrastructure. I’ve also worked on 3D graphics (Three.js, Unity) and embedded UIs in C++. I enjoy owning products end-to-end, from user research and prototyping to production code and analytics. At CO2 AI, I worked on Product and Carbon Footprint Measurement software for large enterprises, and I’m now a Founding Engineer at Plume, where we’re building AI geospatial software to make renewable site selection faster and more data-driven. ## Work Experience ### Founding Engineer @ Plume (YC S24) Jan 2025 – Present | Ville de Paris ### Senior Software Engineer & Product Designer @ CO2 AI Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Ville de Paris ### Senior UX Engineer @ Ouster Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area Designed and developed the experience and UI for a 3D visualizer of lidar data, either live, on a local file, or stored in the cloud. - Created and user tested low and high-fidelity Figma prototypes after researching stakeholders workflow and exploring analogous tools. Introduced novel interactions to emphasize Ouster lidar specificities. - Established a design system in Figma to unify Ouster's ecosystem of tools and solutions. Architected and built a corresponding component library using React, Chakra UI, Storybook, and Vite.
Set up a CI/CD pipeline with unit and interaction tests. - Developed the visualizer front-end using React and Typescript. Contributed heavily to the rest of the stack consisting of Electron, Three.js, WebAssembly, web workers, and image processing algorithms, which required an understanding of the lidar firmware. ### Product Design Lead @ Ouster Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco Bay Area Took over the full stack of an internal web tool used to store, replay, and share lidar data. Updated cloud backend and added visualization features to support workflows of firmware, test engineering, marketing, and sales teams. Hosted >5k uploads and enabled new critical sales pipeline. Led the UX of a web tool empowering vehicle fleet managers to review accidents in 3D. Headed user research and brainstorming sessions. Managed 2 contractors through design and usability testing phases. ### Embedded UI/UX Engineer @ Ouster Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area Designed, developed, and launched a real-time point cloud visualization app to assist garbage truck drivers in avoiding collisions by seeing 360°. - Led contextual inquiry with garbage truck drivers on 15 ridealongs to understand their driving environment and visibility pain points. - Created 4 visualization prototypes in parallel. User tested options during think aloud sessions in a simulated driving environment. - Wrote, tested, and deployed production code for the finalized MVP visualization in C++14 using VTK, SDL, and EGL to allow for real-time rendering on an embedded computer without an X server. Considered future iterations and built in flexibility to accommodate. - Improved vehicle 3D models and developed Python scripts to reduce operational overhead for system install and recalibration. - Drove product strategy, informed by competitive analysis and research findings, and produced client pitch decks, strengthened by videos of authentic user experiences collected during ridealongs. ### User Experience Engineer @ HYPNO VR Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States Designed and developed an Oculus Rift Unity app for a startup team of anesthesiologists who place patients in a hypnotic state for medical procedures. ### Graphics Engineer @ National Robotics Engineering Center Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States Designed and developed an AR app to support US military deminers in improving their technique using a metal detector. I implemented rapid iterations of 3 versions of the app for HoloLens, ODG R7, and handheld mobile device using Unity 3D. I also led user testing on 5+ UI options. I prototyped UIs and visualization tools in C++ (Godot and QT5) for
2 other robotics projects: automated distribution centers and automated solidification of the of the Mississippi river banks. ### Intern - HoloLens Prototyper @ Columbia University in the City of New York Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | New York City , États-Unis After developing Unity packages to connect the Microsoft HoloLens to the Leap Motion Controller, I created a music exploration AR experience using Spotify Web API. This project was carried out in 2016 while I was interning for 4 months with Pr. Steven Feiner at Columbia University. ### Intern - Consulting & Audit in Japan @ KPMG Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Tokyo, Japon At the end of my Sophomore year at Ecole Polytechnique, I interned at the Japanese branch of KPMG to get more familiar with the Business World, and to discover the fields of Audit and Consulting. After spending 3 weeks with a host family in Kyoto to improve my Japanese skills, I moved to Tokyo and acquired basic knowledge in Audit, Consulting, and Accountability. ### Teaching assistant @ Armée de l'air Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 | Ecole des Pupilles de l'air, Grenoble For 8 months I was a TA in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry to “Classes Préparatoires” students willing to become Air Force engineers. This internship was part of my curriculum at Ecole Polytechnique, which required to work for the French Army for a few months. ## Education ### Diplome d'ingénieur in Computer Science École Polytechnique ### Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction Carnegie Mellon University ### Mathematics in Physics and Chemistry Lycée Louis-Le-Grand, Classes Préparatoires ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/pierre-amelot-ba6a77107 - Portfolio: https://pierreamelot.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/pierreamelot JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/pierreamelot/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-31
