# Prateek Kumar > SDE-II Platform-Infrastructure | MS Computer Science, CUB'24 | Ex-SWE Couchbase | Backend Developer | Distributed Systems | DevOps Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/prateekkumar Hi there! I'm Prateek, a software engineer who loves building distributed systems and backend applications. My passion lies in solving complex problems and pushing the boundaries of what's possible with technology. At the University of Colorado Boulder, I pursued a Master's in Computer Science, diving deep into topics like Big Data Architecture, Datacenter Scale Computing, and High-Performance Scientific Computing. These courses equipped me with the skills to tackle challenges in the world of distributed systems. (Fun Fact: My professor for HPSC, Prof. Scott Runnels, is the founder of the Computational Physics Student Workshop at Los Alamos National Laboratory—yes, the same lab best known for its central role in developing the first atomic bomb!) While at Couchbase, a leading distributed NoSQL cloud database company, I had the opportunity to work on some exciting projects. In addition to what's mentioned on my resume, I tested transactions in a NoSQL context (think eventual consistency and persistence), worked on Cross Data Center Replication with Sync Gateway (the synchronization server in a Couchbase Mobile), and focused on durability to ensure the highest probability of data writes persisting through unexpected events such as node failures via a consensus-based replication approach. I also handled synchronous reads and writes at 100k requests/second over multiple levels of persistence. One of my notable achievements was identifying and resolving a critical issue caused by the default OpenShift pod process ID (PID) limit of 1024, which was insufficient for Couchbase Server's requirements in a customer's production environment. By investigating and analyzing system logs, monitoring metrics, and resource utilization patterns, we pinpointed the initial thread parameter that needed adjustment. But I'm not just a technologist with a prefrontal cortex focused on all things computer science. I'm also fascinated by the aviation and astronomy industries, particularly engineering marvels like the P-51 Mustang fighter plane from World War II. For a regular dose of serotonin, I turn to the mysterious realm of space. I often find myself pondering the possibilities of asteroid mining and the potential resources it could unlock for humanity's future endeavors in space exploration. If you've reached this point, we might have something to talk about. Please feel free to reach me at prateek.v12f@gmail.com (in case you are wondering why v12, think F1 engines) for any potential job opportunities or even just to discuss space and military jets! ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer - II, Platform Infrastructure @ EasyPost Jan 2024 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States ### Graduate Teaching Assistant @ University of Colorado Boulder Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 | Boulder, Colorado, United States - Managed cohorts of 220-240 students on user-centered design and development skills like Figma prototyping, usability testing, and data analysis using statistical methods like t-tests and p-values with continuous iterative improvements in course content & learning outcomes. - Provided detailed feedback to students, highlighting strengths, areas for improvement, and suggestions for enhancing their user-centered design skills. ### Computer Science Grader @ University of Colorado Boulder Jan 2023 – Jan 2023 | Boulder, Colorado, United States - Graded assignments, projects, and assessments for a class of 200 undergraduate students focused on user-centered design principles and methodologies. - Graded over 1,000 assignments and projects throughout the semester, ensuring timely feedback to students. ### Software Engineer @ Couchbase Jan 2019 – Jan 2022 | Bengaluru, Karnataka, India Part of the Kubernetes Operator team at Couchbase DB building and testing features for cluster management with declarative types and automation. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Couchbase Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Bengaluru, Karnataka, India Developed a semantic parser to extract actionable insights from log files based on predefined grammar rules with flexible characteristics using RAKE algorithm to detect relevant words and extracts. ### Student Placement Coordinator @ R.
