# Pratyusha Pogaru > Software Engineer Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/pratyusha Hello! My name is Pratyusha Pogaru. I am a full stack developer with a passion for the intersection of tech and life sciences. At my first hackathon, my team and I reconfigured a Myo armband to extract and process data to measure the onset and progress of Parkinson’s disease. It has been my favorite coding project till date, and I discovered my passion for programming for life sciences. I went on to take bioinformatics courses, where I studied Hidden Markov models and wrote papers comparing and analyzing genes and their relations on the basis of software alone. I began to learn and love the language of statistics as I played around with optimizing my training datasets. Then I had the opportunity to aid my bioinformatics professor with his research about coral reef preservation, via deep learning and image classification. We submitted an NSF grant proposal to fund this research further. Meanwhile, I also got to apply and develop my full stack development skills at each of my internships, and later at Veeva. I made a difference in hundreds of developers’ and thousands of customers’ daily lives with my work! I loved (and was a little awed) at the impact I could make with some software and teamwork. My experiences in industry have shown me my value, provided me with incredible mentorship, and given me a deep appreciation for professional collaboration (and dog-friendly workspaces). Please feel free to get in touch by connecting on LinkedIn or emailing me at plpratyusha@gmail.com. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Veeva Systems Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 ### Associate Software Engineer @ Veeva Systems Jan 2020 – Jan 2022 ### President @ STEM NOW Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Jose - Cultivate an environment for STEM students to develop professional skills to prepare for industry - Host beginner coding workshops for non-STEM majors to get a hands-on introduction to programming - Provide networking opportunities by bringing in professionals for tech talks and workshops - Maintain a safe environment to discuss representation, equality and inclusivity in industry and society ### Campus Outreach Coordinator @ STEM NOW Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 - Facilitated communication and collaboration between STEM NOW and other clubs on campus - Planned a networking Diversity & Inclusion Dinner with the Beta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Omega Epsilon, the Society of Latino Engineers & Scientists, and the Society of Women Engineers - Organized a set of discussion/networking rounds with 20 professionals from industry and 40 students involved in each of these clubs ### Grader (CS 160- Software Engineering) @ SJSU Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 - Ensure students understand Agile Software Development and the full software development life cycle - Check for distributed workloads on semester-long team project - Assign grades based on level of understanding and completion of weekly goals ### Teaching Assistant @ San Jose State University Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area - Give lectures on inheritance, polymorphism, recursion, sorting, stacks, linked lists, trees, maps, and best practices in Java - Guide 30+ students as they complete a weekly pair programming project and assign them grades - Create a comprehensive semester review and final study guide to highlight lab concepts & associated lecture concepts - Modify lab material based on students' experiences to improve comprehension ### Research Assistant @ San Jose State University Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Bay Area - Identified and organized materials to contribute to the objectives and merit of an NSF grant proposal - Gathered information about and compared deep learning classification algorithms for 13,000+ images - Compared AWS plans to maximize performance and minimize cost for an initial classification project ### Software Development Intern @ Smiota Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 - Created an internal single-page full stack web application with AngularJS to optimize the entire customer onboarding process - Saved 3+ hours of onboarding process time per brand new client with my project - Built a simple Android mobile application on extremely short notice to accept contact information for a networking event ### Web Development Intern @ Jobvite Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | San Mateo, California - Delivered legacy code to improve, update, and maintain the developers’ environment - Optimized the creation of Apache solr cores via Ansible, reduced from 2 hours to 15 minutes - Configured Ansible roles to replace container management GUIs in over 100 developers’ environment setups, to better visualize Docker metrics - Provided unit testing coverage on several user-facing webpages via Jasmine and Karma - Built a web application to display load time metrics on selected internal web pages in a dashboard style, for over 100 developers to use.
