# Quinten Marsala > Lead Software Engineer Location: Spokane, Washington, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/quintenmarsala When I first started studying computer science in college, I was working at a call center job at a ~500 person company in the collections department. I approached the founder of the company and let him know that I was interested in a Software Engineering Internship as I wanted to shadow an engineer to see if that was what I wanted to do. After a few weeks of shadowing the engineers, I saw there was a technology gap in my department. I proposed a project to the engineering manager to help the collections department to automate the bonuses that the agents would receive. A couple of months into the internship, I was asked to transfer into the Engineering department full-time! I worked hard and within five years was promoted from intern to senior software engineer and then to a technical lead for the checkout process. I continue to aspire to be a great software engineer by reading about best practices and playing with new technologies.
